  1. Uninstall / Repair When I choose Repair, the Adaware updater window pops up and says Repairing. I see progress bars for a few minutes. Thein in the Adaware updater window I see "Repair error adaware antivirus has encountered an error while repairing the program. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please close the program and try to start the repairing process again." When I choose Uninstall, the the Adaware updater window pops up and says "Uninstall adaware antivirus..." It offers me two buttons: Cancel or Remove. I click "Remove". The adaware updater window then asks if I would like to keep some protection. There are check boxes for Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. After leaving both check boxes checked and clicking continue, I get a confirmation box uninstall adaware antivirus. I choose yes. I see progress bars for a few minutes. Thein in the Adaware updater window I see "Uninstallation Error adaware antivirus has encountered an error duting uninstallation. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please close the program and try to start the repairing process again." If I click the skip button with regard to installing defender and firewall, the screen and error is exactly the same. Trouble Shooting File Notes I noticed the We are almost done window not only pups up at boot, it pops up every hour or so. I followed your guide: Although I have installed Adaware 12, I still see: C:\ProgramData\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 11\ The guide says I should find 7 files beginning with MSI in C:\APPDATA\Randy\Local\Temp I only see six such files. msinfo32 does not have zip as an option. I created a txt file and indluded it in the zip file. Ad-Aware 11.zip
  2. Kaspersky was run from their rescue cd; so, I dont think so. I had to run it from the command line, because the GUI kept putting my system to sleep. I could definitely be wrong, though. I know very little about linux and / or Kaspersky's disk. I do have a lingering problem with Adaware 12. As I said, it seems to be running fine except for one odd thing. Every time I reboot, when adaware first loads, I see an Adaware window that says "Almost finished click here..." When I close the window it does not come back until I reboot. I just googled this, and see quite a few mentions with regard to Adaware 11, but none for Version 12. The window on all the screenshots I see show the version number in the Window. On my computer it does not show any version number at all. Windows 7 says that I have version 12.0.649.11190. That is also the number shown on adaware's app managment tab. There is a green notification box at the bottom the adaware window telling me there is an update available.. When I click this it takes me to download the same installer that I already installed. That seems to be in an endless loop. For the posts I saw about adaware 11, the consensus seemed to be to uninstall and re-install. I opened Programs and Features and tried to repair first. That failed. I then tried to uninstall. That also fails?? P.S. By "running fine" I mean the status icon is the task tray toggling real time on / off changes the icon like it should updating definitions works I did a full scan after I got the computer up and running
  3. While adaware was not installed properly, my computer had gotten infected with several viruses. I am pretty sure that is why after install Adaware would not start. I used Kaspersky rescue disk to scan and disinfect. This took 3 days -- eek. Anyway, after the Kaspersky disk finished, Adaware is running normally.
  4. The Adaware install completes. After rebooting, the tray icon does not show up. When I try to start adaware from the program menu, I get this error: C:\Program Files\adaware\adaware antivirus\adaware antivirus\12.0.649.11190\AdawareDesktop.exe The requested resource is in use. When I open Windows Task Manager, I see that on the running programs tab. On the Services tab, I see that the adaware service is stopped. When I try to start it in computer management, I get this error: Windows could not start the adaware antivirus service on Local Computer Error 170: The requested resource is in use. The start up choice is set to automatic. a
  5. Sorry for the long delay. I was on vacation for a couple of weeks and was nowhere near my workstation... This week, my Radeon tray icon let me know that there is an update for my video driver. The software showed that there were two options: a recommended update to 17.4.4 and an optional update to 17.5.2. I thought I would try to install again after the update. Driver 17.4.4 allowed me to install Adaware 12. I have not installed the "optional" update. Since adaware and the Radeon drivers are known to be a picky pair, I am thinking it may be wise to avoid installing "optional" updates to the driver. I am assuming that the "recommended" updates would be more stable. Anyone have thoughts on that?
  6. Thank you. When I download and try to run the file, I get this error: The requested resource is in use I tried reboothing and using run as adminsitrator, but that did not work either
  7. After a very, very long time, the Adaware 12 installer gives this error: "Error: Msi transaction owner change failed" I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
