  1. Any way I can help I will if it means fixing this problem. I just recently got AdAware back on my computer after uninstalling the 2007 version a year ago. The updates wouldn't download for me, and with me on dial-up when I'd do them manually it was taking forever so I said forget it. Two weeks ago I had a tune-up done on my laptop and the computer lady downloaded the Anniversary Edition for me since it wouldn't take her too long. Everythiing has worked perfectly until today when I was just about done with a long update and I got the connection error. Thinking my connection might have been interrupted I did it again and same thing. I went to the FAQ and found where there was a work-around with this, telling me to do this: *Go to, C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware and right click on AAWService.exe, select properties in popup menu and in the Compatibility tab. Change the Compatibility mode to "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP" , click "apply" then "ok". Do the same for Ad-AwareAdmin.exe and then retry the web-update. but when it tells me to go to the exe. files of Adaware and change the compatibility mode to WINXP, there is no option of WINXP. So what do you do then? I only have options of WIN95, WIN98, WINME, NT and 2000. So am I suppose to change anything at all? I'm kinda clueless on this. Thanks, ~Royjean~ Forgot to say, me too, when I click on the download Lavasoft asked us to, the metafile.dat, same as help4me, I got a whole page of codes, was that were we were suppose to see? My last successful def file download was May 24, 2009. Hugs, ~Royjean~ I know I'm "replying" to my own message but did want you all to know, even if there was no pulldown option of changing the Compatibility mode to WINXP with the work-around suggestion by Lavasoft, I changed it to WIN98/ME instead, and it worked. It took me two times trying to install the def updates but it worked, no connection error this time. So don't know if it was because I went into the exe files and changed stuff or not, or per chance it just decided to work. Yea!! Hugs, ~Royjean~
  2. Hi everyone, Royjean again. I'm still waiting for a reply to my "above" question from May 6. Is there anyone that might be able to download the latest def file for me and email me with it? I am on dial up and the last time I tried manually downloading the file it took almost an hour. I am afraid of trying to do it again since it takes so long then it not working. But I might be able to make do with the file if it was downloaded for me and I can unzip it and try it again if it was sent to me. Thanks, ~Royjean~
  3. Sorry Gelert for posting back here, but still no luck over at that other forum you sent me to. I am still stuck w/o being able to download the newest def files. So my AdAware is still sitting at the April 20th def files which are totally useless to me. Do you have any suggestions? Would I still have the same problem if I "PAID" for AdAware? I am at a loss here. Thanks, ~Royjean~
  4. Hi everyone, Me too with the updates, can't get them to update, although I've had the new version of AdAware 2007 since January and my udates were working great until they stopped on my desktop in my office in March and on my laptop, they stopped mid-April. I was given the suggestion of manually downloading them from Lavasoft and I did but they won't unzip. Can anyone tell me why I can't get them to unzip. I am using WinZip 7.0. It might be outdated but it's always served its purpose for what I need to unzip. I have it on both my office computer and my laptop. Up until I tried to manually unzip the def files from Lavasoft's site I've had no trouble unzipping anything. On my office computer, the last update was 3/20/08 and on my laptop the last one was 4/19/08. I run WINXP on both computers. I am on dial-up on both my desktop and laptop which takes forever to download. I had downloaded the current def file which was over 2 MB and it took so long I thought it'd never stop downloading. Then I found I can't unzip it. what a waste of time. I hope I'm talking about the same version of AdAware, right? I have the free version AdAware 2007, 7.0.2.7 that's the numbers on the window. Can someone please help? Or is Lavasoft forcing those of us that have the "free" version into buying the paid version? Thanks, ~Royjean~
  5. Thank you Gelert, I did post there at first but didn't get an answer. When I saw there was a common courtesty reply back here, I thought I'd give it a try. Thanks, I'll post again there. Hugs, ~Royjean~
  6. Hello Gelert, I am using WinZip 7.0. It might be outdated but it's always served its purpose for what I need to unzip. I have it on both my office computer and my laptop. Up until I tried to manually unzip the def files from Lavasoft's site I've had no trouble unzipping anything. On my office computer, the last update was 3/10/08 and on my laptop the last one was 4/19/08. I run WINXP on both computers. And as I said, I am on dial-up on both too. We are talking about the same version of AdAware, right? I have the free version AdAware 2007, 7.0.2.7 that's the numbers on the window. Thanks, ~Royjean~
  7. Help, I've still not gotten an answer as to why I can't do a web update. What should I be doing.......I've tried manually downloading and saving to my computer the def files but they won't unzip. Can someone please help me? Sorry for repeating this. Thanks, ~Royjean~
  8. Peter, what happens if you go to the web page and download it manually but even when you unzip it, it still won't work? I still get an error. I forget exactly what the error says but it took me so long to download it, like the file was over 2 MB and I'm on dial-up, I'm afraid to try it again. Thanks, ~Royjean~
  9. Hi, I'm not new by no means using AdAware but since last week I can not do the web update. Using another users suggestion, I went directly to the Lavasoft site to download the current def file, but saving it to my computer and unzipping it, does not work either. What am I doing wrong? And then on my laptop, when I go and try to update, it tells me I'm not the user. I have no idea what that means. I am using AdAware 2007, version 7.0.2.7. The last known update on my desktop is March 2008 and on my laptop where it's now telling me I'm not the user is from April. I am the only user of both these computers by the way. And up until now I've never had a problem using AdAware. Thanks, ~Royjean~
  10. Oct. 6, 2006 Hi, I have been having the same problem since 7:00 EST this morning. I'm really glad it's just not me. Stupid thing though, I thought my AdAware was corrupt or something so I removed it and then downloaded it again and am now back to day one needing the definition files. Like 500 days behind!! Stupid me. Hugs, ~Royjean~
