1.
Hi, Lavasoft replied to visitor's report with the following two comments: and then... Hope that helps, Casey
I AM so HAPPY with AAw Ae! I got all the downloads this morning! AWESOME!!! Thanks to ALL that helped me thru this... NOW if Only I can get 2 other software programs to work right! LOL... Feel safe now!
 2.
I am also experiencing this same issue. I am running Windows XP Professional, with Service Pack 3 and Ad-Aware PLUS, version 8.0.8. On January 27, 2010, I downloaded webupdate 0149.0140, successfully and have not been able to download any other updates since, either via the main AAW GUI interface or via the system tray AAW icon. Also, I have conducted a quick glance through the AAW file structure and I am unable to see any definitions file (*.aawdef) anywhere in the file structure. As a reminder, where should those definition files be located? I hope this information helps and I anxiously look forward to a quick resolution. Thank you, Regor for creating this post. --Voltron
I have the same problem..I was told to UPDATE to AAW 8.1 after all this time, I have not found a way around it easily. I took it (AE) and reloaded it several times but all I get is that 0140... I thought it was the Computer Associates Security Suite locking out the Updates, but I am not so sure now... SO I will try to get the AAW 8.1 tomorrow. I loved AE, but so much hassle... I always relied on AAW... HOPE I CAN get this straightened out soon... I am running Vista 64 bit Home Premium...
 3.
Core.zip is an archive "package" which contains the definition file core.aawdef. You need a program like WinZip or WinRAR to "unzip" the archive so core.aawdef can be extracted into the specified folder. You may already have software installed to do it - when you double-click core.zip, if it opens, you can drag core.aawdef into the correct folder. If Windows asks you which program to use, then you need to install zip software. It seems the 8.1 users have been able to download defs 149.145, so the only thing you'd have to worry about are the other bugs like the constant reinitialization which Lavasoft is working on. Chances are Lavasoft won't fix the AE update bug since they want everybody to use the most recent version.
I think I will have to go for the NEW 8.1 as I think maybe My CA security suite has shut down the updater for the Ae... or something like that CA shut down my internet abilities on some sites today(web mail included) Got that straightened up from them today..But for some reason they would not help me with the AW AE Updater LOL... Infact they said...YOU DO NOT NEED THAT when you have CA SECURITY SUITE... My Reply... WHY NOT THEY FIND more Boogers than YOU DO! LOL... NOT a HAPPY 'Oversees'Tech! I will try.
 4.
Somebody else with AE 8.0.8 has the exact same problem, read my comments there: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=28444
I did stop the firewall and tried to download the updates and it did no good. I have no idea how to do the other things... unzipping or what ever. if I deleted the AE and went to the 8.1 it probably would not download the newer definitions either right?
 5.
Ad-Aware AE does work on Windows 7 64bit, I believe, though it may not be advertised as doing so. Whilst you cannot download AE directly from Lavasoft, some of the official mirrors still host it. Try http://filehippo.com/download_ad-aware/ and select the version 8.0.7 (from the column on the right). Casey
Hi Again.. I deleted the AE... and reloaded a new AE from the Hippo site that you gave me. NOW: I did all the Updates and scanned.. all went okay ... BUT the last update/definition file, it says that I have is 0149.0140 and according to this site it says that the current one is 0149.0145 can you tell me why my new AE is not getting the current definition files? thanks...
 6.
That is correct - over the top install does not work well. You can try Add/Remove, but if you still have problems, we've been recommending use of Revo Uninstaller (revouninstaller.com) to do a clean uninstall first.
SINCE I no longer have the AE on my Desk Top to reinstall, IF I wanted to Keep AE, there would be no way to keep it right? Does it handle Windows 7 (64 bit?)... I have seen that people are having problems with the New 8.1 updates etc etc... I really do not have a choice right?
 7.
No, there shouldn't be. Ok, so would you like to

Try and solve the update problem in AE or
Try and solve the installation problem with 8.1?
Casey
I guess resolve the newest one as in a week or so I will be going to Windows 7 (64 bit Premium Home) and I noticed that the AE says up to Vista... AND I don't see a link to redownload the AE... I have the newer Ad-aware Install on my desk top now. It says that we can install without deleting the OLDER editions first... that it will do it.. but this is not true is it? FIRST I am to delete AAW-AE from programs add-delete correct?
 8.
Hi again, When you download (save) the file make sure you save it to your desktop. Then close your browser and run the file - do not run the file from within your browser. If you still run into the problem - do/did you have Kaspersky anti-virus installed? Casey
I did/do have it on my Desk Top and that is where I ran it. NO I do not nor did I have that Kaspersky thingie... I have the CA(Computer Associates Security Suite) on as I always have. IS there a reason why AAW-Anniversary Edition quit updating. after 1/26/10 but says it''s Up to date?
 9.
Here is the Error Message: It comes while the Install Wizard asks for permission and seems to have well started: "A NETWORK ERROR HAS OCCURRED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO READ FROM THE FILE C:\users\Rosemary\AppData\Local\Temp\mia1\Ad-AwareAE.msi Then an alert that readds...(Failed during Installation Check Your Settings) Thanks for any help you can give. I use CA Internet Security Suite IS there a reason why I can't get the AE Updates past 1/26/10? all the other partas of AE seems to work just fine....
WHEN I DO the UPDATE on the AE it states that IT IS ALREADY UP TO DATE!... Which it is not... It SCANS just fine....
 10.
I have AAW AE (Which I see has Not updated since 1/26/10) Although I try to UPDATE... I have Vista 64 bit Home Premium- I try never to change programs as when I do..everything else goes bizerk!... I did not get this newer version for fear of 'the turmoil'.(and the AE WAS running perfect...WAS!!!.. BUT because of the NON UPDATING of AE, I decided to try to download and install this newer version. I download it to my desk top and try to run it..ONLY it stops and says that there is a FATAL ERROR! and it closes... NOW WHAT? I am tech-challenged! so it has to be very very simple!
12. ... I only wish that I had seen it, before I went thru it all!... I had to Google 'EFW FILE' to find out that CA was infact blocking my Opening the new AE file by changing it to the EFW Format!...After I found out (From another AAW Forum thread) How to use MSCONFIG to turn AAW OFF to uninstall the 2008 AAW & delete the other files... it was a slow learning process, that I only wish I had not gone thru... the 2008 AAW had never given me any problems before... I have MIXED feeling about the NEW AE....BUT I guess it was a way of getting me to install it! After doing an all nighter(AT my OLD AGE)... I feel like I have a puter-hangover!
 13. AFTER all that happened last night... this was the simple answer? Guess it caused me to change to the AE! I had put it off as, it seems everytime I do these 'CHANGES' to new editions(Of ANYTHING) I run into more problems with the 'NEW' stuff!.. Anyway, it's done now... I just wish that my start up was quicker... I get the desk top and some Icons quick enough, but the majority takes forever and the AAW loads a lot slower too...
 14. I FINALLY Found out what was stopping the NORMAL Download of the AAW Anniversary Ed. and why I was getting it as a EFW File (Which I could NOT OPEN!)... BECAUSE CA(Computer Associates Security Suite) was doing it to the AAW file!... SO I switched to the MS Fire Wall and turned off the CA Firewall and it let it download in a NORMAL file format. THEN I was able to click and apply it... but then the AAW AE file still did not start normally even though it pretended to download the UPDATES(When I went to start and all programs then clicked on AE UPDATER... SO I went back and ADD/REMOVED the AE...and reinstalled it AGAIN.. and WHOLLA! it is running smoothly(Did scans & updates as usual on the new AE... This AM, when I booted up.. it took forever to start up... but once it did... It's ALL good now... ANOTHER THING: every thing seemed to go crazy last night... after a very long time of no problems with anything... first it was the MS Monthly updates, then the NON Start of AAW-2008 then everything slowing to a creep... THEN... FRONTIERNET. closed down ALL EMAIL services for 'SERVICING'... ALL at the same time... and ofcourse CA had to not let the download of AE come thru normally!... it was a all nighter here... JUST want to know what the heck happened! and HOPE IT'S ALL OVER NOW!!!
 15. I removed the aaw FINALLY... I followed the directions that is on this forum(Different thread) for MISCONFIG then UNCHECKING it from RUNNING.. then I shut it down and restarted it to remove the program all together! was only able to delete it after the MISCONFIG and shut down.. Then I read on the forum where you find the other FILES left behind after the ADD/DELETE Programs... then I found the reg. files that were left of AAW & even removing the HIDDEN FILES!... I'm pretty sure it's gone now... but when I go to put AAW back on it's coming up as a 'EFW FILE" when I download the Free Anniversery Edit. to my desk top... THEN when I click on the file..it will NOT OPEN! HOW in the world do you open a efw file? I am used to just double clicking and the files open!... then I RUN them to install... SOME BODY HELP!!! SOS!!!
