  1. [quote name='there are known issues with NIS and SpyBot - MalwareBytes -Raziel No idea when AE might work with NIS and/or MalwareBytes (SE worked with both of them)? Alice
  2. (I posted this in the SE seciton, but guess no one goes there any longer. Thought I would post it here for an answer.) I have been using SE for many, many years and never had a problem using it. I understand the new Ad-Aware is much larger than the SE (2009 8.0.0.0 is about 33MB, while the SE, I believe was 5MB.) and I wonder if it has as many settings as did the SE. I remember when I installed the SE there were many settings that I had configure which was quite confusing to me. Such as: Scanning Advanced Shell Start-up (scan mode, etc.) Default Tweak Scanning Safety Settings Log Files Perform Full system Search for negligible risk entries Low Risk Threats etc., etc. # 1- Are the settings on the AE 'very' different than those I had set on the SE? #2- Is there some place that would show me how the settings should be 'set' for each particular version? #3- Can AE be used along with SpyBot and MalwareBytes and NIS? #4- FileHippo has "Ad-Aware 8.5.285" 60.13MB and MajorGeeks has Anniversary Edition 8.0.0 Size: 32.9 MB - and I wonder if either of these is the one I should download? (I thought I even saw a Anniversary Issue for 2009;) As you can tell, I am not too familiar with computers or malware programs, etc. Thank you. Alice
  3. I've been trying for a day or two to get to the SE download page. Finally got through this A.M., but now the download is taking soooooo long. Is anyone else having same problem with slow download? Thanks alice
  4. Right. Hope the date for the defs will be included so that we can tell which update we are downloading. Rahter than downloading the same update we downloaded previously. I don't believe there is any other way to tell what the date of the defs are, unless the date is listed on the download page. Hope someone will bring this to the attention of LS.
  5. I use the following URL to get the updates (upper right of screen): http://www.lavasoft.com/support/securitycenter/blog/ My question is - I do not notice any download information that once was printed there, such as date of update. How are we supposed to know the date of the definitions/updates? Newest update is March 2, 2009. (I guess there are only a few of us left who still use the SE.)
  6. Has SE stopped posting Def updates? The last one I have is 2-16-09. Also, the download page doesn't even list the date any longer. I clicked on the update button, but don't know which date the defs pertain to. Does anyone know what is going on? Should I just give up and delete SE from my computer (user for years)?
  7. Was just shutting down and saw your post. What version of AdAware are you using? I believe the System Volume Information folder cannot be opened but it contains copies of all 'restore point." I would not recommend deleting the items that were found after the last scan. Read my thread above about SAS false/positives and people deleting items found only to find they removed important parts of their operating system and then they got the BSOD. As DDon suggests, wait a day or two and see if AdAware issues another update for the definitions. I ran the scan on two of my computers after the 2/4/09 update to my SE AdAware. My desktop showed the 2 Win32Trojans and my notebook didn't show anything. Go figure. Got to go now.
  8. Thanks Do you remember WHERE WERE YOUR TROJANS FOUND? IN THE "SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION" FOLDER? (As I mentioned, I am using the SE version.)
  9. Thanks,. WHERE WERE YOUR TROJANS FOUND? IN THE "SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION" FOLDER? Do I have to do anything else, or does a moderator read thease (this) threads and posts an answew? Alice
  10. After downloading the 2/4/09 for my 'old' Ad-aware SE Personal Build 1.06r1, I also found two viruses as follows: Name: Win32.TrojanSpy Type: File Catefory: Virus Object: C:\System\Volume information\_restore.....etc. What are these? I can't get into the System Volume Information folder. Does anyone else see the 2 Win32.TrojanSpy in that folder? What do I do? Please help me. Alice
  11. I do not think that pertains to me as the two System32.Trojan Spy were found in the C:\System Voleme Information Folder. I don't know what to do!!!! WHERE WERE YOUR TROJANS FOUND? IN THE "SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION" FOLDER?
  12. I do not think that pertains to me as the two System32.Trojan Spy were found in the C:\System Voleme Information Folder. I don't know what to do!!!!
  13. Right. I ran the previous AdAware scan with, I believe, the 2/2/09 defs and nothing found. When I installed this 2/4/09 def update, it found the two System win 32:Trojan Spy. I notice there is a folder in the C:\System Volume Information. But when I click on it, I get message that it cannot be opened. I also ran NIS; SpyBot S&DMelawareBytes and A2 and none of them found anything. There was a problem with SuperAntispyware a week ago about it finding two problems. Folks deleted the two problems and then their computers shut donw - BSOD. I hope this is not the same thing. What do we do now? Do you know? Do you also have that folder in your C: drive? The System Volume Information? If you, what happens when you try to open it or put your cursor over it? I don't think we should delete that folder, do you? I wish someone with Lava would post an explanation, but then they would probably say that they no longer support this version even though they still offering updates. Please let me know if you find out anything. For now I am not going to do anything. I even went so far as to restore my folder to previous day. The Syste, Volume Information is still there (I thought it might have been installed with the 2/4/09 issue of the defs. The defs mentioned now are 1/28/09. I bet if I run another scan, I probably will not say anything about the 2 Wn32 trojan spy, etc. Please keep in touch. Alice
  14. I'm still using the SE Personal, Built 1.06r1, because there are still updates being made. For the first time after running the scan I see the following after downloading the 2/4/09 update. I never saw these before. Can anyone tell me what to do??? Name: Win32.TrojanSpy Type: File Catefory: Virus Object: C:\System\Volume information\_restore.....etc. Alice
  15. I've been downloading updates for my Ad-Aware SE Personal, Built 1.06r1, but notice there have not been any updates since 12/29/08. Will download/updates still be available? Or must I delete AdAware after a very long relationship? Alice
