Ad-aware will automatically disable File-Protection if you already have security software installed that is doing a similar job, in order to avoid conflicts.   3. Hi I just had a look at this topic and also at the email ticket. There seems to have been a bit of misunderstanding and you have been sent to the forums a bit prematurely. First of all, the tech support for our products do not include a Virus Removal service. (We do offer a [url="http://lavasoft.partner.supportspace.com/support/services/virus_spyware_ls"]separate service covering that[/url], but please note that it is separate from our products.) Our products do include scanning technology which removes malware present, but first and foremost it protects the systems from being infected in the first place. If a system is infected before Ad-Aware is installed it is very likely that you may have big problems installing it at all since it is very common that a malware infection include self protection mechanisms that targets well known antimalware products. As CeciliaB point out the version is for the software version and not the definitions. It could also be that the McAfee program is causing the system crashes/Blue screens since it the scanners is likely to conflict. Please uninstall any other AntiVirus or Security products on your system. Further the thumbs.db file is a system file that is NOT malicious. The reason why you can see it probably because you have changed your Folder->View options. Finally, I have sent you a separate email as a continuation of the email ticket thread. It would be nice if Cecilia would continue investigate the files not removed, but I suggest that until we have need for continued help from our malware expert here on the forum, we should see what can be done with the software issues. They may not relate to an infection. They may be caused by a software conflict.

    Scheduler

    Hi Click the '+' button in the lower-left corner to add a new scheduled scan. Also note that you cannot add a scheduled update. You turn on automatic updates in Ad-Aware Settings->Updates but you cannot set them to run on a specific date and time.

    Ignored items not persistent

    Hi Do you mean that they are found in an actual scan again depite being added to the ignore list or did Ad-Watch detect them? the ad-aware scan and the realtime protection in Ad-Watch uses different rule sets. If Ad-Watch is detecting them you need to chose to allow them or edit the rules for Ad-Watch processes.

    Files Protection Module in AApro 9.0 Slows my PC in XP

    Please note: The below comments only applies to Ad-Aware Pro users, since the feauture discussed is not included in Ad-Aware Free. The File protection module in Ad-Watch Live! may be involved in conflicts with other software. The symptoms maybe slowdown of the system or software/system crashes. In severe cases the conflict can cause the system to slow down so mch that it is practically inoperable. The reason for the conflict is that the Files Ptotection is an on-access file scanner. Simply put the module scans a file in the system each time the file has been accessed by another process. If the file contains malicious code it is blocked from being accessed and removed/quarantined. Since most other Anti-Virus programs also include similar on-access scanning technology, there is a high risk of conflict. If a file is read by a process it will be scanned by Ad-Watch, which in turn will trigger a 3rd part AV scanner to scan the file, which again triggers Ad-Watch and so on, and so on... There is also other software that includes heavy file-accessing functionality that may trigger the Files protection module, for example automatic backup software. So if you are running software which is file access heavy you will see performance issues with Ad-Watch Files. Low-spec systems may also have problems during Windows startup since a lot of applications and services are started and require constant file access during the startup phase. This could get significantly slower if Ad-Watch Files is enabled. All that said, normal systems that does not run multiple AntiVirus programs should not have any issues, possibly a slightly slower startup. But that is the price you pay for the increased protection. If you decide to disable Ad-Watch Files you will still be adequately protected if you have enabled your other Ad-Watch protection modules, most importantly Ad-Watch Live! Process protection. This is the most important layer of defense included in the real-time protection of Ad-Aware and is also the module included in Ad-Aware Free.     Do not disturb mode is disturbing

    Hi Visitor is correct. One could add that beside waiting with resource heavy activity such as scans and updates it also suppresses any tray messages that would 'disturb' (stop) applications from running in full screen mode. Example: If a message is displayed while watching a movie with VLC in full screen, it would interrupt the full screen mode, display the tray message and the VLC movie would continue running in the regular VLC window. A user would have to manually activate the full screen mode for the VLC player again. Disturbing huh? But I agree, that the messaging 'after' going out of Full screen mode might be confusing and 'disturbing'. Maybe we should just give a notification without making a point of it. I will feedback to dev team. Thanks.
