  1. I believe I either have spyware or a virus that keeps opening IE windows periodically. I have done ull scans with both AdAware and Norton, but they find nothing and it keeps happening. I am very concerned. Can anyone give me an idea of what this might be and how to get it out of my system? Some of the windows are for random prize webistes and some go to a Google page that claims it couldn't find those keywords in any documents. Thanks. A
  2. Hey CJ- My system seems to be doing great. I have completed the cleanmgr and restore off/on. I will complete the other suggestions very soon. I am always the super careful one who doesn't click on anything...that was why I was so surprised I was infected. My only issue is that since I installed SpySweeper in addition to the AOL security I am running my system hangs on shut down unless I remember to manually turn off SpySweeper first. Any Suggestions there? I currently run the free version of Ad-Aware SE but given all the wonderful support I have found here, I will pony up for the subscription now too. I hope I don't have to come back here, but in case I do, I know where to come. Thanks again and the very best for a wonderful holiday and New Year.

  5. I decided to try shutting down SpySweeper before I shut down and sure enough my shut down went fast and smooth...must be that competitve thing "oldFrog" was talking about. OldFrog-Is there a way to automatically have one of my programs close itself first so I don't have to remember to do itmanually each time? Amy
  6. I'm curious about this also. I am now having the same issue and I have recently downloaded SpySweeper in addition to the AOL Security Center I already had installed. Now I'm thinking this is the problem. I'll be watching for the solution... Amy

  9. Hi Daniel- I definitely am an even bigger fan of Ad-Aware now. The balloon is gone, but is everything else gone too??? I see all the posts telling people they need to run all of these fixs and logs and I have done none of that. But as I said I never actually downloaded anything fromthe Antivermins website. Do I need to be concerned? I also noticed that when I was trying to shut my computer down it seemed to just stall with the windows screen saying "windows is shutting down"...why would this be happening now? Thanks again for such a wonderful product and support system. Amy
  10. I'm just an everyday user and I have installed Ad-Aware on ever machine I use-home and work. I also had my boss load it on his machines. Can't imagine un-installing it...ever.
  11. I had the Win32.trojandownloader.zlob item show up on the scan I just did with Ad-Aware...I also had that Antivermins balloon. After I deleted the 6 items it found the balloon disappeared. I did up load the latest updates tonight before I ran my scan. Ad-Aware didn't eliminate the balloon yesterday, but I am very grateful it did today! Was the latest update meant to aid in getting rid of this balloon? I never actually downloaded the "software" from the Anitvermins website, but I had that security alert balloon. I have not run any of the smithfraudfix and other items listed in several other posts. Should I be concerned there is still something on my system now that the balloon is gone? I have also run scans thru AOL security and Spy Sweeper. This forum is some of the best information I have come across and has some of the most helpful people around. Thanks for a wonderful resource (especially for those of us somewhat less technical than others). Amy
  12. Not sure if this was a good idea or not, but I did a right click on the tray-hit properties-customize-and chose the "always hide" option for the system alert icon. Now I don't have to see the balloon every 2 minutes. A
  13. I haven't run anything yet expect Spy Sweeper (which found 1 Trojan and 9 other issues) and deleted them. I have also run AdAware and the Spyware scan thru my AOL protection. At this point they find nothing else except I still have, like you, that annoying balloon that keeps popping up in my tray wanting me to go to the AnitVermins website. Does anyone know how to get rid of the balloon? If 3 programs say no more spyware/malware is detected am I safe? Thanks, A
