  2. Hi, The category of the detection is not accurate (Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT) but the file includes additional software bundles that some users may inadvertantly install, hence the detection. If you are comfortable with the application's install procedure, you can ignore this detection. I highly recommend you upgrade to Ad-Aware 11 - verison 9.6 is really old now and the code base is no longer maintained. You can get v11 here. Andy Lavasoft Malware Lab
  3. Hi Deaddy, Thanks for the upload! The remaining samples are now detected. Regards, Andy Lavasoft Malware Lab
  4. Hi Dolamtie, Can I ask you to read my post above CeciliaB's and get back to me? Andy
  5. Hi Dolamtie, Sorry you're getting bounced around. I just installed AVG & Ad-Aware and ran an AVG scan. I wasn't able to recreate the detection - the scan came back clean. It may be that AVG have already fixed this. Can I ask you to update AVG and run a scan again? If you're still getting a detection can you report back here? Another possibilty is that the Ad-Aware installer you have was not downloaded from an offical source, like lavasoft.com, or download.com. Do you recall where you downloaded the installer from? Regards, Andy Lavasoft Malware Lab
  6. Hi, Thanks for the encouragement! We're in discussion with the VB team about this anomalous showing - we hope to get to the bottom of it. It's not yet clear if there was a problem with the test itself. VB will analyse their logs before we go start looking internally. Andy Lavasoft Malware Lab
  7. Hi, 1. Incremental improvements occur all the time (such is the nature of agile development) so yes, we would hope to see an improved showing in subsequent tests. 2. Our opinion doesn't really convince people, but yes, we do think Ad-Aware (Free, Pro and Total) is on a par and often outperforms the top products. Why do we think this? We carried out our own regular (daily) in house detection testing. The results which demonstrated, to Lavasoft staff at least, that Ad-Aware out-performs what are usually thought of as the top AV products, both free and paid (AVG, Avira, Avast, Kaspersky etc), in terms of detection. We had planned to release our in-house test results regularly but we found that people, understandably, were sceptical. So, rather than try to fight a losing battle convincing people about our in-house results, we left it to third party testers whose results are more credible than a vendor who tests their own product. 3. See above. Andy Lavasoft Malware Lab
  8. Hi, This file is not considered a false positive and will remain in detection. I sent a PM to you with additional info. Regards, Andy Lavasoft Malware Lab
  9. Hi safetybytessoft, Thanks for letting us know. We'll re-investigate and report back here. Regards, Andy Lavasoft Malware Lab
  10. Hi, To be clear, the element flagged was not a virus, rather a 'wrapper' around the legtimate Ad-Aware installer. It seems detection routines for that particular element were added to the detection database at some point after you had downloaded it.
  11. Hi, Thanks for confirming. We'll have to take this up with download.com. Regarding the file - it is not a false positive or accidental detection. Feel free to quarantine/remove it. Regards, Andy Lavasoft Malware Lab
  12. Hi, The installer you have for Ad-Aware has been 'wrapped' in another installer. Ad-Aware itself is not being detected although the wrapper around the Ad-Aware installer is being detected. It seems that someone has taken our installer and wrapped it in their own installer, then made it available for download. This is something that we do not allow our partners to do, including download.com. Is it possible you got the installer from another download site? Andy
  13. To all our users, We would like to apologize for the definition file update error. The problem came from our definition file distributor in the US which took longer to fix than anticipated. We also plan to release an updated version of Ad-Aware, v11.2, within a few days. I would like to thank everyone for their patience while we resolved the issue and let you know that we appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you very much. -- Richard Martineau Product Owner and Coordinator Lavasoft
  14. Hi BillyDick, Can I ask you to restore the file from quarantine, zip it and upload it to this thread? I'd like to check the file out. It would also be helpful if you could tell me where you downloaded the file from. When restoring the file from quarantine, turn off real time protection first so that the file is not immediately detected as soon as it is released from quarantine. Thanks! Andy Lavasoft Malware Lab
  15. Hi dr. The file will be removed from detection as of an update to be published today. Regards, Andy Lavasoft Malware Lab

  21. Hi Chris, I can't comment on the length of download time recorded in your test, but essentially, yes, Ad-Aware checks downloading files. There are no immediate plans to review how Ad-Aware handles incoming files but if it becomes problematic/important enough to our users, yes, we will certainly look at it. Andy
  22. Yes. I didn't see any difference in download speed when Ad-Aware was installed and not installed.
  23. Hi Chris, I wasn't able to recreate any of the things you experienced. Can you send me the steps to reproduce? It would be helpful if you could provide as much detail as you can. Below are some brief notes describing the URLs and files I encountered. I found two URLs in our DB from 2013, but they've now been removed.
