1. If you don't trust use that link use the one I have posted. http://www.lavasoft.com/index.php
2. Chrome settings are changed by clicking on the 'spanner' then select settings and go to 'Appearance'. There you can change your home settings.
3. Brad, we tried our best to no avail. At a rough guess I think the motherboard may have died but only affected the USB ports. A bit odd but stranger things have happened. At least the post had over 1590 hits and may have helped someone else. I will close this post off in the next day or so. Glad to have been of help to you.
4. Here is your older post and 'Blade81' helped you. He closed the topic as he did not receive any more replies. http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?/topic/32644-welcome-to-nginx-virus/
5. Brad, I agree with you that it seems something is wrong with the D630. I am puzzled that the main battery will not charge. According to the manual around page 31 on it states the battery should charge regardless whether PC is switched on or not. So I would tend to agree with you the battery or the charger has given up the ghost. And if you read page 31 it also tells you that a low battery will affect (USB Ports). Amazon in the US sell them for less than $20 US. http://www.amazon.co...0/dp/B001RNACES The other thing you may also want to replace is the COIN cell battery that keeps your BIOS chip alive at all times. Page 122 in the manual will tell you how to go about it. I can't help you with a part number for that. If you need the manual again I can resend it - just let me know. BTW there been 1124 hits on this subject.
6. Here is your link to 9.6.0 http://www.filehippo...ad-aware/10910/
7. Brad, I agree with that you must be getting a bit fed up by now. I will just keep looking and posting suggestions. I did find a similar post on the Lavasoft forum and here is the link http://www.lavasofts...tack-locations/ . I am also puzzled why you did not receive any disks with your machine. Dell is usually on the ball with that. They may be on a hidden partition which you are unable to access. I have just read right through you initial post to the end and will you just confirm that you still have the initial problem or have we advanced? In other words is it just now the USB ports that do not work? Just answer when you feel like it, sometimes it is best to walk away for a day and come back refreshed. Couple of links I dug up for you. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellcare/en/backupcd_form?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&redirect=1 http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100401050039AAuZZuR The answer to the last link is rather interesting as it seems there may be a hidden partition on your hard drive. Suggest you also install 'Belarc Advisor' on your PC as it will give you snapshot of your hardware and software installed. 8. Good morning from me. Reason sfc /scannow will not run may be due to the application pointing to CD drive. Google 'sfc wants CD' and there are a few answers there. You may have to edit your registry so that it points to your 'C' drive. I will check back later.
9. Brad, just be very careful with the registry. One mistake can corrupt it. The other problem could be a corruption of one of your system file/s. Have you run " sfc /scannow " without the quotes from your run position in XP? The inf file that you touched is part of your hidden system files and may be corrupt. I have attached two (2) files. One is a snapshot of my registry residing on my XP machine and shows the USB registry entries. The other one is a text file which is the actual entry of the USB entry in the registry. If you are confident you can change the file extension from 'txt' to 'reg' and you are then able to copy it into your registry by double clicking on it. That is your decision and I can't guarantee a fix.
10. Brad, I am starting to run out of ideas but here goes. Go to page 107 and read 'System Setup Program' USB ports may stop working. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817900 USB connectivity issues - this covers a multitude of tests and checks. http://support.dell....1&isLegacy=true Perform a clean boot. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353 Method 2. I have also been following your post. http://forums.techgu...cognized-2.html I will check again tomorrow if you have made any headway.
11. Maybe this will help. Check page 13 of attached manual (zipped) and then follow link. http://support.dell.com/
12. Megamind, I would still advise you to download SP3 for XP machine. SP3 covers more than just all updates - it also has system improving reliability files. If you leave it much longer you will not have access to it as Microsoft are ceasing support for SP3 in April 2014. Support for SP1 and SP2 have already ceased. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/end-support
13. Megamind, you should also have SP3 for XP installed.

21. If you don't like it just get rid of it.
22. Contact link is in my signature.
23. Yes, I feel for you and hell would have broken loose. Were you able to restore your PC to an earlier restore point at all? Do you run a backup at all to an external hard drive at least once a week? What O/S do you run? Did you keep records at all of OEM software you were running before the battery failure? Have you lost any installed paid software and files you created? There is a free program I run that will keep track of other software "Belarc Advisor" and you can print out a report which gives you software installed, serial numbers, size of RAM etc. It will even flag that M$ software is up to date. Link is http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html I don't know how much more I can help you but post back and I will see what I can do for you.
