  1. You have just given me the answer. The problem is that you have dial-up and because the update file is so big your download stalls caused by a timeout by dial-up. How savvy are you with doing a manual update? If you do a manual update you can download a zipped file from the LS homepage. See link below. You then have to unzip the file and replace the old with the new. From memory it is the 'core.def' file. which is located in c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\lavasoft\adaware. It is a hidden file so will have to set hidden files as visible. http://www.lavasoft.com/support/securitycenter/blog/ You might also read the blog entries as they are very informing and may save you from clicking on dodgy links. Post back and let me know if this has been of help.
  2. Yes, that sounds fine. Did you do a remove and new install? Also will it update at all? From memory last update is 143.004. That should show up on your main AAW page. I'll be off the air tomorrow as we will have no power due to maintenance by local power supplier. Fire up AAW go to Update tab and try update again and post back. By that time I should be up and running again.
  3. Did you download from the Lavasoft website? If not it is possible you may have downloaded an old cached version. I would recommend to remove your present AAW 2008, download a fresh version and do a fresh install.
  4. Glad to be of help. You did put a couple of emoticons up. I will leave this post open for another couple of days - then I will close it.
  5. I don't know why I have to repeat myself. You have posted in the correct place "Post your support issues here". As regards to scanning, please remember the new AAW is complete new software totally different from SE and will run in a different manner. Read the 'Help' file if you want to know how to set it up for scanning. If you don't like the way AAW scans I suggest you install more anti spyware software. I have not found any anti spyware yet that will pick up every bit of spyware on a PC.
  6. Here are the links for both. Please use with care! http://www.superantispyware.com/ http://majorgeeks.com/ATF_Cleaner_d4949.html
  7. Yes, it is a nice picture. I have added some text to the picture. Like here. Have another go. It may make more sense now.
  8. PM stands for Private Message. 'Appropriate Forum' means to post it in the best forum that matches your problem. The above is part of my closing signature. Have I answered your question re scanning times? If not, please rephrase it and what version of Ad-Aware are you running on what type of O/S system.
  9. Here is the link if you wish to do a manual update. http://www.lavasoft.com/support/securitycenter/blog/
  10. Under Settings and Scans you can vary the TAI settings. After a scan you also have the option to set detected objects to delete or ignore. Try varying the TAI setting and see what happens.
  11. AAW 2008 is a complete new software package. My scans take just as long especially the complete scan which can take up to 2 hours.
  12. You have download the zip file. Unzip it and replace the previous def file. http://www.lavasoft.com/support/securitycenter/blog/ Zip file should be in 'c:\program files\lavasoft\adaware Else you may have to do a search.
  13. It is all starting to point to Internet Explorer. I assume you are running version 7? If I change my Homepage I am prompted from SUPERantispyware and Win-patrol if this is really what I wish to do. It may pay to install those 2 applications - do a thorough scan with SUPERantispyware. Both are free programs and the former may pick up what Spybot S&D and AAW 2008 have missed. I have not found a program yet that covers all bases. I have all those installed plus M$ Windows Defender as well. Post back and if still in trouble I'll alert some other folk.
  14. Iceberg, you can delete these by using the following screen shot I have included. You must delete them straight after a scan and possibly also reboot your PC. Some items will not be removed till you do the latter. Click on delete if you have any errors in 'Quarantine' then click on 'Ignore list' and you can either 'Delete' or 'Ignore'. I usually click on 'Delete' for 'Quarantine' and 'Ignore' for the 'Ignore list'. Hope this helps you.
  15. No, you may have some other problem and it may not be AAW that is causing it. Do you have any other anti spyware installed like Spybot S&D or SUPERantispyware? They are both free and may pick up something AAW is missing. I have all 3 installed and run them at different times. At times one of them picks up spyware which the other has not. It won't hurt to try them. Post back with results please.
  16. Hopefully this will answer your questions. Q Scheduler: If schedule scan for wee morn. hrs. does AdA. 'handle' or remove or must I check to see? A No, you will have to remove any removals. Q Scan: Is it automatic or must I manually initiate. What's the best way? A You can do it both ways manual or automatic. Q Quarantine: What is it? Must I empty-delete-or ignore? A Quarantine them. Hopefully you will not get any. Q Scheduled Scan: If I figure out how to set this up, must comp. be left on all night? A Yes, you will have to leave PC powered up all night. For any information you require when AAW is running, click on '?' and you will get a help file where all the answers should be. Use the search function for that. As for this forum there is a "Help' function available at the top right hand side, just click it and enter your search item and click search. I have merged this with the rest of your items. Just keep coming back here and ask again. Don't worry we all had to start somewhere. :)
  17. I suggest you do a complete removal, download a fresh download from the Lavasoft site and do a fresh install. http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=19003 Install/remove AAW 2008. http://www.lavasoft.com Download fresh copy from here.
  18. Have you checked Settings>Regshield>Trusted Programs in Adwatch at all. See attached. You may have to set these to allow by clicking on them.
  19. Have you changed your hardware or reloaded your O/S at all? That would revert it to Free. You are entitled as a paid customer to 24/7 support. Either sign in from the link at the bottom of my post or send an email to support at lavasoft dot com explaining your problem. Supply them with as many details as possible to ensure a prompt reply.
  20. Use the file you downloaded. Just activate it and you will get a choice of either 'Repair or 'Remove'. Let me know if it works please.
  21. No, I don't think it is possible as it is an integrated software package.
  22. Iceberg, before we do anything we will need to know what version of Windows you are running and if all the Microsoft updates have been installed. Till we know this there is not much we can do for now. Will you please post back with that information. Thank you.
  23. You may not realize but the majority of the support on this forum is coming from unpaid volunteers and is mainly directed at users of AAW 2008 FREE. AAW 2007/8 PLUS and PRO users are entitled to 24/7 response from the Lavasoft Support Centre as they are paid up customers. You stated you are running Ad-Aware PLUS but you do not state which version SE, AAW 2007 or AAW 2008. If you have a complaint you should register it with support at lavasoft dot com with a detailed report contained in this post. Thank you.
  24. As you are running the free version can you disconnect your external hard drives before scanning? It sounds a bit cumbersome but it is the only idea I can think of. With the Plus and Pro version you are able to nominate the files/disks you wish to scan and leave them connected.
  25. If you scroll down you can either send me a "FASTREPLY" or "ADDREPLY". Try that and see how you go. If you get stuck just post a new topic again and I will add more information. We will delete any posts that are no longer relevant. Don' worry, we all had to start at some stage.
