  1. Okay, I will give Firefox a shot and see if I can't get the kid to go along w/ it. Once again, thanks for everything. You ROCK!!! Hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Ciao!
  2. Hi HJThis, I installed Javacool's SpywareBlaster, updated it and enabled all protections. Next, I did a "windows update." There wasn't much to that, just one update, the one that ensures I am using a legitimate copy of Windows. No problems there. So what next? Oh yes, the IE=Spyad. I will wait for your reply before doing that one. It does sound like a wonderful program by its descripton. For what it is worth, I don't see how any of the "downsides" of Vers-2 would matter to me or my daughter. Anyways, I wait. Ciao! Santamaria
  3. Hi HJThis, First off, I just downloaded Javacool's SpywareBlaster, haven't installed yet, but I will now. Next, it appears as if I should go w/ IE-Spyad2, because I am running IE7 and I am thinking that it might be good if I did a machine-wide install of that program. The download site does not list IE7 as a compatible browser for the original IE-Spyad. In any case, I have NOT yet downloaded either version; I will go w/ which ever one you recommend. I will set windows update to automatic. Can I do the same for the other programs (like JRE, IE-Spyad, SpywareBlaster, etc) or must they be manually updated? Also, is it okay to have multiple anti-spyware programs like I have (Ad-Watch2007, Ad-Aware2007, Spybot Search&Destroy, SpywareBlaster, IE_Spyad, SuperAntiSpyware)? Is this going to be over-kill? Once again, I will follow your recommendations. In the meantime, I will install the SpywareBlaster now, and do my updates. I will pm when completed. By the way, how do I pm you? be back soon. Santamaria
  4. Okay, here's the status... ComboFix<---Deleted OTMoveIt<---Deleted SDFix<---Deleted DSS ... Deleted Q> what should I do w/ the "fix.reg" and jre6u3 folders on the desktop? Can I delete them as well? I turned off System Restore, and rebooted. I did have to manually turn on "System Restore" after I rebooted. I checked to ensure that all previous restore points had been cleared (they were) and then created a new restore point (which was named "HJThis at lavasoftsupport.com") I then deleted,,, Browsing History Temporary Internet Files Cookies Emptied the Recycle Bin made the recommended changes to IE Security Q> Do I need to reactivate "TeaTimer;" or was that a virus? Otherwise everything appears to be back to normal. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate all that you have done for me HJThis. I wish you all the best. Christopher Santamaria
  5. Okay, here's the latest... First, OTMoveIt was able to move the two command lines. Here's the log entry... C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinAvXX.exe moved successfully. C:\WINDOWS\system32\printer.exe moved successfully. Created on 12/13/2007 19:39:47 I was able to do the "fix.reg" as directed. I downloaded JRE 6u3 to the desktop I removed JSRE 5u6 via Add/Remove Programs (Which, by the way deserves some note because up till now I have NOT been able to access the control panel... That is a wonderful sign ) I rebooted; then installed JRE 6u3. And you know what??? That D*mn pop-up has not popped-up yet. That is another good sign. Am I cured? And if so, do I need to get rid of any "restore points" which may still have the bug? In any case, Thank you so very much HJThis.
  6. Okay, I closed all apps and ran Deckard's System Scanner. It only generated the "main.txt;" which is included at the end of this reply. As for how the machine is running... there has been no change to the initial symptoms... the popups are still coming and I do not have admin privilleges. Here is the DSS log... 7. Okay HJThis, I was able to do MOST of what you directed. However, the second change under TeaTimer was not possible because when I clicked the "System Startup" icon, the resulting list did NOT include a "TeaTimer" box for me to uncheck. 11. Hi HJThis, Thank you for your reply. I will not be doing anything more w/o you telling me to do it. Till then, thank you for everything.
  12. Well, I tried 'regedit' in safe-mode, but that was a bust. My normal log-in screen shows 3 accounts... CHRISTINA (my daughter), CHRISTOPHER (me, originally setup w/ administrator privilleges), and GUEST; in that order. The 'safe-mode' login screen shows 3 different accounts... HP_ADMINISTRATOR (the original administrator account when I first setup this pc), CHRISTINA (same as above), and ADMINISTRATOR (I presume that this is the same account as CHRISTOPHER above). The GUEST account does not appear in 'SAFE MODE;' and no Passwords are requested when accessing the HP_ADMINISTRATOR account. One other thing... while I cannot access the HP_ADMINISTRATOR account in normal mode (because it is not a listed option), I have been using that account every time I was in Safe Mode, because I thought that it might allow me more privilleges. I don't know if that is important or not. HJThis, I want you know that I truly appreciate all the effort you have given this. If I cannot remove this virus/worm/trojan bug, do you think that I might be able to restore my system via the D-drive? Thank you for your time.
  13. I just learned that I cannot "merge" either. Is it possible to edit the registry in safe mode?
  14. How do I get there if I cannot use regedit? Sorry.
  15. okay, I am lost. I saved "fix.reg.txt" to my desktop as previously directed. However, when I double click it all that happens is a text file opens; showing the script that I pasted therein. If I try to save the file as "fix.reg" it won't let me run it. HOWEVER!!! If I right click it "Merge" is an option. Shall I?
