  1. Nope! Thanks again for setting me up, I'll take the Nuke & Pave option from here and give out a little education in the process.

  3. Excellent, thanks again Trogan! I'll grab a log from that other machine tonight, can I post in this thread or should I start a new one? I'll have a sit-down session & explain "Things You Should NEVER Do on the Internets" with this guy & his family too.
  4. Yikes, that's worse than I would have ever expected! Here's what I'm thinking: I already advised him to get an Install CD from Dell (If he doesn't have one, I'm not sure if they always ship with Dell machines currently) for a worst case scenario. Looks like this is just that. He's getting married Saturday & will be gone for at least a week, so I can make CD backups of his important data in that time. Is it safe for me to burn things like images, text files, basically anything in the My Documents folder? I mean, will they need to be scanned for infection before placing them back on a clean install? The other question is, that machine was briefly connected to my home network, initially to DL SpyBot, AVG, etc. Can I post a HiJackThis log in this thread to make sure MY rig isn't infected somehow? Thanks for the advice!
  5. Hope I can resolve this, I stumbled into helping a co-worker with a malicious infection. First exhibited some kind of IE Spoof window, "SpeedTest" I think was the title. I ran a battery of Ad-Aware SE (before installing the newer version) SpyBot and AVG but the pop-up problem still remains if an internet connection is present. I have the original list of staggering problems found with SE, but here's the count: Adware.Agent(TAC index:5):68 total references Adware.Ismas(TAC index:4):19 total references MRU List(TAC index:0):28 total references Other(TAC index:5):3 total references Possible Browser Hijack attempt(TAC index:3):3 total references Starware Toolbar(TAC index:5):39 total references Tracking Cookie(TAC index:3):88 total references Virtumonde(TAC index:10):12 total references Win32.Trojan.BHO(TAC index:10):1 total references Win32.TrojanDownloader.Agent(TAC index:10):23 total references Win32.TrojanDownloader.Obfuscated(TAC index:10):35 total references Win32.TrojanDownloader.Tiny(TAC index:10):3 total references Win32.Trojandownloader.Zlob(TAC index:10):4 total references Also ran HiJackThis and have that log: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 9:15:09 PM, on 1/1/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16574) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgemc.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\Core\smax4pnp.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Musicmatch\Musicmatch Jukebox\mm_tray.exe C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe C:\Program Files\Support.com\bin\tgcmd.exe C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\m3SrchMn.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgcc.exe C:\Program Files\DellSupport\DSAgnt.exe C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\PROGRA~1\MUSICM~1\MUSICM~3\MMDiag.exe C:\Program Files\QdrPack\QdrPack11.exe C:\Program Files\Digital Line Detect\DLG.exe C:\Program Files\Kodak\Kodak EasyShare software\bin\EasyShare.exe C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\Musicmatch Jukebox\mim.exe C:\Program Files\Sony Corporation\Picture Package\Picture Package Menu\SonyTray.exe C:\Program Files\Sony Corporation\Picture Package\Picture Package Applications\Residence.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgw.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Leigh\Desktop\HiJackThis.exe R1 -
