1. Please provide a version of Ad-Aware that can be installed and run while Avast stays alive. I like both products but will not drop Avast. From a number of posts on Lavasoft Forums, new Ad-Aware 10 conflicts with Avast. I'm keeping my Ad-Aware 9.6.0 for now, but it's inconvenient constantly being reminded to upgrade. Thanks.
2. Dear Lavasoft - I have refrained from updating my Ad-Aware Free version 9.6.0 because I trust Avast AV Free very strongly. I've had both Ad-Aware and Avast running since Win98SE and I'd be sorry to lose that. Like many others, I am not comfortable with your suggestion that Avast be turned off or that Ad-Aware be favored over Avast for antivirus purposes. I realize it's a free program, but I do urge you to do a further update that lets us continue to run Ad-Aware as we have in the past. By the way, you write above that in Ad-Aware 10, we can "turn off real-time protection". BUT - doesn't my Ad-Aware 9.6.0 have some type of real time protection going, so that if I upgrade to Ad-Aware 10 and then turn off real-time protection I am losing something I now have? Thanks. PS - My PCs are WinXPPro SP3. I also use Spybot S&D (free), SpywareBlaster (free), but those seem to be quite passive. Occasionally I also run a MalwareBytes scan, but that is manual only - does not run in the background.
3. Thanks, or Tack så mycket. By the way, is Lavasoft located in the tech park in Vasteras? An old friend is or was a senior executive there.
4. Dear Ms. or Mr. Anders: Noted. Right now, my Ad-Aware results window is sitting there - I haven't told it what action to take with that one file. Apologies for asking, because your product is both great and free, but when do you think you will get back to me on this? Thanks!
5. Ran an AAW scan first time in two months and have a possible malware, but maybe a FP? Cannot read the source file info from AAW, but the AAW log says this: MSG [6848] 2011/06/01 08:09:58: Start Scan MSG [7924] 2011/06/01 08:19:06: Infection: [Method]: 19, [Family name]: Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT, [Path]: c:\program files\cpuid\pc wizard 2010\unins000.exe MSG [6848] 2011/06/01 12:35:32: Scan Ended I am uploading here the target file. Just seems very unlikely that an uninstall file for PC Wizard (a very useful program) would be a malware. What do you think?
6. LavaJ - Noted. However, a number of lines in my new log files are "ERR", which I assume means "ERROR". Do you see the same in yours?
7. Since the manual thorax update earlier this month, I noticed my AAW log files are much more complex than before. Is that normal? On each update, in addition to the new info being appended to Update.log and aawadmin.log, I now also get the following: 1) Service_2011-04-24-06-00-36.log (where the date and time updates of course with each new file), which says: MSG [5816] 2011/04/24 06:00:36: Certificate db: Tue Apr 19 03:48:40 2011 2) Scan_2011-04-24-06-00-36.log (same), which says today: ERR [5816] 2011/04/24 06:00:36: SDKController::CheckEngineState -> Engine not loaded ERR [5368] 2011/04/24 07:47:33: SDKController::GetLatestSuccessfulScanReportHeader -> Not in idle state ERR [5368] 2011/04/24 07:47:33: SDKController::GetLatestSuccessfulScanReportHeader -> Not in idle state ERR [5368] 2011/04/24 07:47:33: SDKController::GetLatestSuccessfulScanReportHeader -> Not in idle state ERR [5368] 2011/04/24 07:47:34: SDKController::GetLatestSuccessfulScanReportHeader -> Not in idle state ERR [5368] 2011/04/24 07:47:34: SDKController::GetLatestSuccessfulScanReportHeader -> Not in idle state ERR [5368] 2011/04/24 07:47:34: SDKController::GetLatestSuccessfulScanReportHeader -> Not in idle state MSG [5816] 2011/04/24 07:47:35: Stopping scan... 8. On my first AE scan, I also had to move at least one item to the Ignore list -- a useful web function would have been crippled if I had not recognized the very brief cookie name. Also, it picked up a few cookies as TAI 3-level tracking items. However, the only choice was to Remove, not Quarantine - why? Finally, if I now go to the Ignore list, it shows that one item but does NOT name it or describe it - just says "Cookie". USELESS! Others have noted the same lack of information in their Quarantine lists. How can we un-Quarantine or un-Ignore a particular item if it's not identified? I'm running AA AE only on an older desktop and keeping AA 2008 on my more important computer - I do NOT feel AA AE is trustworthy yet. Lavasoft, there are too many risks here and you continue to have very poor graphic design. It's as if you have no Quality Control or consumer focus groups. What gives? Thanks.
9. Babar - Thanks. Remaining questions: - Is Ad-Watch Live! part of AA AE Free? Or only Pro? - What does AAWService.exe do? How is it different from AAWTray.exe? - If I prefer to hang back and continue using AA 2008 for a while, what protection am I missing that is provided by AA AE Free? FYI - The reason I ask the last question is that there are still a number of disturbing threads in the Forum, including two who have seen their entire PC's wiped out, and another who noted that the listings in Quarantine and Remove do not show adequate detail.
10. Morningdove - How did you accomplish "AAWtray.exe 'start with windows' has been deleted from the registry"? In any case, one of my questions above was whether preventing AAWtray.exe from starting would in any way impair any part of AA that remains active in realtime and guards against malware coming in. (Is there such a process in AA Free?) Another question is what is the difference between AAWtray.exe and AAWService.exe? Finally, your suggestion seems helpful, but should we really have to edit the Registry? Lavasoft - any comment? Thanks.
11. Casey - Any news? Also, any responses to my three or four questions in this thread? Thanks.
12. Dear Merlin: Thanks for articulate response! Nice to know these things get read. I'm NOT a tech pro like you, but you expressed my thoughts precisely. When Ad Aware first came out some years ago, I thought it was an admirable program - fast, useful and easy for a non-tech like myself - and as a home free user I certainly wished the company luck in landing corporate accounts. I guessed they'd be successful since they were the first ones out of the gate with a serious and effective product. Since the "2007" version, however, it's as if the old company has changed character. The graphics and information are quite poor, the "feel" is sluggish and sub-par, and there's decreasing attention to quality control - or at least it seems that way. Hey, Lavasoft, please take a look in the mirror and come back to us! We DO appreciate the free version, but why put out new versions that seem to slide down hill? The craftmanship seems to be gone. Is this a case of Saab being taken over by GM? Oh, by the way, any responses to my three or four questions in this thread? Thanks, and still best wishes.

14. Casey and friends - I have uninstalled AA Anniversary and gone back to AA 2008 7.1.0.12 with its annoying popup. AA Anniversary is not ready for prime time, for the reason above and other issues flagged in this forum, including lack of necessary information in the Removed and Quarantine lists. Please let me know when the bugs have been worked out. It's ironic that I uninstalled AA Anniversary because of the unremovable tray feature. Doesn't that mandatory tray service violate the point of a product like Ad Aware? Thanks.
15. NEED TO GO BACK TO 7.1.0.11 BUT HOW TO DO THAT? I JUST UNINSTALLED AA ANNIVERSARY AND NOTHING IS LEFT. PLEASE ADVISE. THANKS.
