  1. Yay!! It works now - thank you!! Incidentally, I ran a computer scan with Avira and it found a trojan attached to IE which I removed. Why didn't Norton find that! Anyhow, I'm delighted with my new software that you have recommended and would like to thank you for the great service you and others provide on these forums. All the best. Sue
  2. Hi Everything is working really well thank you. I just wanted to ask you one more thing!! How can I get the links in my emails in Thunderbird to open up in Mozilla? An example is Ebay. When I click on the link, it tries to open in IE, and of course, IE doesn't work. Any thoughts? Thank you. Sue
  3. Hi, just a quickie. The Avira anti-virus I downloaded has antivir mailguard and antivir webguard. I noticed that pages were loading a lot slower (more like dialup). I temporarily disabled both mailguard and webguard and everything ran a lot faster. I did keep the anit-virus enabled though. Any thoughts on this ? I don't think I can put up with dialup speeds again Thanks. Sue
  4. SOLD!!! I've just bought the premium edition and downloaded it and it's now operating! Thanks for all your help and advice. I'd been meaning to change Norton but never got round to it. Also glad to get away from outlook express! If you don't hear from me for a couple of days, that means everything is working fine!!! Sue
  5. Hi Thanks for mentioning Thunderbirds for my emails. I have set it up and after a few teething troubles, it appears to be doing what it should So one more thing. Which anti-virus to use. As I said, I am willing to give up on Norton and go with another anti-virus, preferable one that is lighter on the system but effective. Can you recommend one? Free would be good What are your thoughts on AVG? Thanks. Sue
  6. Ok, I set up another user account. IE still doesn't work, and the outlook express set up comes up with an error. I have to say I'm getting pretty fed up of Microsoft, nothing but trouble! Can you tell me more about Thunderbirds and where I can get it. Would this be your first choice? Thanks Sue
  7. Well, Halibut is me, and Spreadie is my other half. He has never been able to use IE and therefore has always used Mozilla which he prefers. His uses Outlook Today for his emails which works fine. Thanks. Sue
  8. Hi I did create a new user profile in outlook express, but the error is there!! That's why I tried the repair to see if that would do it. I like the thought of using Thunderbird - reminds me of those puppets I used to watch LOL. Thanks. Sue
  9. Oh dear, nothing appears to be easy does it!! I'm now trying to follow the link in the link for outlook express which you posted. First of all my XP sytem is Home Edition 2002 Media Centre Edition. About 3 months ago I downloaded Service Pack 3 and all was well. Now, each of the suggestions on the link for repair are all well and good until I'm asked to put in the XP service pack CD. I was trying the System File Checker and also the Ie.unf routes. As XP service pack 2 was already installed on the PC which I bought it from PC World, I don't have the CD. I did however buy the upgrade XP. Unfortunately it tells me this is not the right CD. Any suggestions? Thank you. Exasperated - Sue.
  10. Hi I've removed symantic as suggested. I'm going to concentrate on fixing outlook express first. Did the initial instruction of deleting temporary file and compacting all message. Got to the bit below: ............1.Click Start, and then click Run. 2.In the Open box, type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK. 3.Repeat step 1 for each of the following commands: regsvr32 mshtml.dll regsvr32 shdocvw.dll regsvr32 browseui.dll regsvr32 msjava.dll................ All were OK except the following: regsvr32 msjava.dll - error said "module could not be found. File cannot be registered". regsvr32 mshtml.dll - error said "was loaded but dll register server entry point was not found". So, before I continue, does the above mean anything to you? Thank you. Sue
  11. Ok, I completely uninstalled Norton. Tried outlook express and IE afterwards but both still have the same problems. I'm feeling rather vulnerable without a firewall protection, and to be honest, Norton doesn't impress me. Can I put AVG back on as my only firewall, or can you recommend one to me. I'll forgo the subscription for Norton as it is not without its problems. 12. Hi - I purchased Norton online, but I'm sure I can find the code. I'm feeling a bit dim, so can you advise the best way to uninstall Norton. I've had a look but can't see any way to do it. I hear people have problems uninstalling Norton. Any advice much appreciated. Sue
  13. Ok. Before I do can I just ask, if I uninstall Norton, can I install it again from my computer? I have recently paid this year's subscription on it, so don't want to pay for it again. Many thanks. Sue
  14. Hi I tried outlook express in safe mode, but the problem is still there. Also tried IE as you suggested and no joy there either, so add-on don't appear to be the trouble. All was running well until this trojan appeared. Is there anything else I can try? Appreciate your help. Sue
  15. Hi Did as you suggested. Then checked emails in outlook express 6, but unfortunately the problem is still there. If I'm lucky I can delete 5 messages before it shuts down with its error message. Internet explorer is no better either. Can you suggest anything more that I could do. The outlook express problem is driving me nuts Many thanks. Sue
