1. Black Ghost, you might want to try K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. I installed it a few years back and have never had any problems with malware or anti-virus scanners.
2. As a Pro licensed user, best thing is to contact Lavasoft Support via the link in my signature. Undoubtedly they'll tell you it's a conflict with Avast and to run only 1 resident protection program. There has been a problem with the anti-virus setting defaulting back on by itself - Lavasoft plans on separating the spyware from anti-virus, but no target date yet, it will most likely be a future major version update. Many have voiced their love of the SE version before Ad-Aware became an all-in-one solution like the other major competitors. FYI, I think the various download file sizes would only be changes in definitions. In the past, the installers for Free and Pro were the same, and the serial/key just unlocks the paid features.

5. Best thing to do is contact Lavasoft Support via the link in my signature. They handle license issues much more than here since this is the forum to help the free users.
6. Vipre definitions - 1 update per day? http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Home-Home-O...RE/Definitions/ If you check your Ad-Aware Update.log, you should see which definitions were downloaded and installed. XP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\Logs\Update.log Vista and 7 - C:\ProgramData\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\Logs\Update.log Update 8291, February 3 -if Ad-Aware is updated, you should see this file in Update.log: CSC39-EN-8291-F.SBR.SGN
7. Not sure if you're talking about auto update or manual update using the GUI update button. Try right-clicking the tray icon to update or use the start menu update shortcut.

Anti-Virus Engine

This problem has existed since version 8.3, but no widespread reports to Lavasoft, so I'm not sure they've looked into it. Nonetheless, I updated the topic that it's still happening in version 9.0. If you have another app with real-time protection for running processes, you might try turning off that Ad-Watch module as well (in the same settings screen). That's the only resident protection offered by the free version, so the only module that would use the anti-virus engine.
9. Similar topic, shutdown occurs during update: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=30797
10. Similar topic, but does not specify that it happens during update: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=30786 If you're updating via the GUI, try using the start menu update instead.

12. You may also need to delete legacy registry entries: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=28857
13. Have you tried manually deleting all folders, files, and registry entries? You may also need to delete legacy registry entries: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=28857

15. In the future, be sure to scan in Advanced Mode so that any cleaning action is prompted. Simple mode scans will automatically take the "preferred" action and clean suspicious files. If quarantine restore did not work, you may need to try a system restore to a point before the scan/quarantine. That would be easiest if it works; otherwise, here's a thread on how to decrypt files which may be left in quaratine: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?s...mp;#entry122589
