1. appreciated your interest in this matter . . . have done complete search . . . made sure to display hidden files . . . etc . . . only one surfaced is with sun-java (certandkeygen.class) . . . seems ad-aware dumped it overboard . . . go figure. see the att'd image.
2. yep . . . had already checked . . . thanks.
3. cecilia . . . thanks for your interest in my plight . . . am attaching the log file to this reply . . . thanks.
4. win-xp / sp3 ad-aware free 9.6.0 extended-engine-version: 3.1.2770 want to restore quarantined file. updated definitions last night . . . ran full-scan . . . ad-aware quarantined a file. i opened ad-aware interface and went to scan / quarantine / clicked the file under family-category (no highlight) . . . chose "restore" from drop-down menu . . . clicked "perform action now" . . . nothing happened. clicked the file under object-category(no highlight) . . . chose "restore" from drop-down menu. . . clicked "perform action now" . . . nothing happened. i closed down the interface and opened it again . . . no change. fwiw . . . the file is listed in both the quarantine and ignore tabs. the scan-log states the item was a file as opposed to folder or reg-entry or etc. there is a 1kb *.aawquif file located in C:\ Documents and Settings\ All Users\ Application Data\ Lavasoft\ Ad-Aware\ Quarantine . . . the true file was probably 100+kb . . . renaming the *.aawquif file will not bring return the file-size to what it had been. other relevant / pertinent info in the log : Engine: 3 Clean status: Success Item ID: 1 Family ID: 0 MD5: so . . . now what to do ? i want to restore the quarantined file.
5. update . . . omg . . . i just lied . . . ad-aware now seems to be working properly. in the past, i had copied the core file into the directory . . . ad-aware was closed. i tried one more time to copy the core file into the directory, this time with ad-aware opened . . . the file successfully copied (new date). i then re-opened ad-aware . . . and ad-aware finally did it's thing. the interface now shows today's definitions date. it even told me i had the newest definition. ad-aware then asked if wanted to update the software files . .. i accepted . . . it downloaded six new files and installed them successfully . . . all within it's own interface.
6. was kinda' wondering about that, at first . . . but i surmise the public/core file is as the name applies . . . core files for all public . . . i.e. core files for every program being used. aside from that . . . same as many others here, i also am experiencing the same "update-error" issues. i have consulted many of the work-arounds stated here in the lavasoft forums . . . but none have resolved the issue. win-xp (home / 2002 sp3). ad-aware 2008 (free) ver 7.1.0.11 definition ver 0148.0031 last update 05162009 since i am already using win-xp, the following sentence does not apply to me and the option does not exist : the AAWService utility contains compatibility options only for os older than win-xp. even though i am administrator . . . there is no Ad-AwareAdmin program / utility . . . i do have system / hidden files set to "display". next, i went to administrative tools / services, stopping the service, enabling desktop access . . . was already enabled. so, this did not resolve the issue. (windows goes thru it's thing (takes 30 sec) . . . just does not resolve the issue.) windows firewall does not have ad-aware listed in it's exceptions, though it does have avg listed. avg has exceptions for both avgemc and avgupd. though, in the past, ad-aware updated with no problems. i finally decideed to adjust the firewall by adding new exceptions : ad-aware, aawservice, lsupdatemanager. even rebooted computer . . . issue not resolved. win-xp sp3 was installed 05-14 . . . ad-aware last updated it's reference files on 05-16 . . . so this does not seem to be an sp3 issue. since 05-16 date, i installed java / c++ runtime files . . . avg updated it's reference files . . . also performed coluntary system restore on 05-25. i downloaded new definitions core file (18.8mb) . . . opened and copied the core.aawdef to : C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware am now getting server busy error window which displays large red x. guess i need to download the newest release, uninstall my present copy, restart computer, install the newest version and then connect to internet and download newest files, install ad-aware and download the latest newest definition files ? one thing peculiar, of which i cannot recall . . . i had kept a previous ad-aware program update, and kept the installation file info : 7.1.0.11 upgraded to : 7.1.0.12 /public/aaw2008/ceapidll 1 of 4 100% /public/aaw2008/ad-awareexe 2 of 4 100% /public/aaw2008/freeupdateexe 3 of 4 100% /public/aaw2008/threatworkexe 4 of 4 100% Download finished Component installation started Update dependency installed Update dependency installed Component installation finished opened two logs in the above folder . . .
