Version update info is posted on the support blog and in the pinned forum topics: Thanks for all the info you provided cressy, hopefully it helped Lavasoft to fix some bugs
The 2nd link goes to LS CalamityJane, an official "Staff" member, which reminded me as I had mentioned before, if some official staff would have jumped in here occasionally, it would have lessened the frustration & anxiety of all those who had the recent problems. 3.
V8.2.1 is released.....
BTW Can anyone verify the version number? Also, what are the changes that are known from 8.1? Thanks

 7.
Goes for me to, im just venting, but not at the volunteers at Lavasoft.
Likewise, I'm pleased to see that others like yourself have picked up on the point that our frustration is not at the volunteers. It would be even better if Lavasoft came on here occasionally & took the heat directly! Better still, would be to announce progress made & approximate time for a resolution!!!
 8.
That goes for me too, i've never meant any of my venting as an attack on any volunteer. I'm just ticked off with lavasoft because they really seem to be dragging their feet on this.
I'm pleased to see that others like yourself have picked up on the point that our frustration is not at the volunteers.
 9.
Hi Again. I managed to download the defs file but had to go about it in a rather strange way. I run Google chrome as my preferred browser and every attempt to go to download was met with the OOPS screen and that there was a problem going to that site. Didn't matter if I used IE either. So my trusty Acer netbook was plugged into the net and BINGO. Got to download the defs file. I'm wondering if there is some sort of hijack going on here that is effecting my desktop PC? Zonealarm Pro is up to date and I have made a copy of my hijackthis log. Not that I can make any sense of the log details and don't want to delete something that I may regret. So I thought that you or anyone could check it out and advise me if there is a problem. Seems rather suspicious that only the lavasoft defs file download area is being blocked through 2 browsers. Thanks in advance. Neale
See the 2nd to last line in Visitors response for what to do with your hijackthis log. “After following the instructions, open a new thread in the HijackThis Forum where you can copy/paste your HJT log.” Al
 10.
Unfortunately guys... I agree with you. I, personally, think that the software did need more testing before it was released. We, as beta testers, weren't even told that they had released until a few days later (I found out by someone requesting help with 8.2). There were bugs we'd reported and hadn't been fixed - even in the released version (some of which you guys have run into here). Lavasoft have emailed me about this and have apologised for the breakdown between testers and themselves - so I hope this will improve in the future. That said, I think we (yes, I am also experiencing problems with 8.2) have waited too long for some bug fixes. Personally, if they're waiting to release because there's say one bug that at the moment they're unable to fix... I'd rather they release a fix for the other bugs and then another fix later on. visitor and I have been reporting things to Lavasoft, but we've had little response to our reports and concerns. Casey
Thanks for the reply & info. And thanks for trying to help here, & for taking the HEAT sometimes, from the frustrated users who are venting at y'all, but it is really meant for Lavasoft. You guys are here & respond to us, while the LS staff are not visible here, they are only referenced to. Al
 11. For years Lavasoft has been dependable & reliable, but now they have had “2 strikes (8.1, 8.2) in a row.” Yet, if they can get this resolved soon, I will just go on & use the protection that AdAware has offered myself & millions of others over the past years. However, I will be much more cautious in updating to the next version, especially until I see that many, many others have done so without issues, over at least 2 + months.
 12.
Why the hell are we having to check a forum when Lavasoft have paid customers email addresses? They could email a notification that the new program is stable. My license doesn't run out until the middle on July so I hope to God that they extend it free of charge - they should have tested the software better before releasing it. I'm becoming a tad tired of this.
I agree that "they should have tested the software better before releasing it." If only because that's the same kind of shi….rt that happened with the release of 8.1 in the fall. Would have hoped that the 8.1 mess would've taught them a lesson. However, I have no idea what caused either fiasco, or if they're related, but I know that they have suffered a loss of reputation & respect--whatever the level-- & many are "becoming a tad tired of this."
 13.
The blog announced the first fix, but we've been reporting bugs since then. So as long as Lavasoft is reading our info, they should still be working on it. Ad-Aware doing too much really only holds true for free users who want a stand-alone scanner like the old SE version. For paying customers, Lavasoft has gone to marketing a "security suite" similar to their competitors. I guess the surveys must show that if users are going to pay for software, they want it to do it all. It also has to do with how tech savvy the users are. Tech savvy users are more likely to have several different programs installed, whereas the average user wants simplicity - as shown by Ad-Aware's addition of "simple mode." Anti-virus and File Protection are features of the paid Plus and Pro versions, so really the Free version is just a malware scanner. Unfortunately, the software is the same, with the serial just unlockinddg the extra features. The solution would be to develop a separate, simpler utility for the Free version - something that Casey has suggested.
While many of us have been loyal Ad-aware users (free & paid) have been patient, only wanting a resolution sometime soon, its understandable that others have posted their anger & frustration--some will never come back. However, I wanted to add that I appreciate Visitor & Casey having to be 'in the middle,' trying to help us--at least answering our concerns--while trying to let Lavasoft know what we think & feel about this. So thanks guys. I know you'd be as pleased as any of us to get this resolved. Al
 14. Hey, rjgraham. I see that you’ve just joined. I’m newbie too, as I started here a week or so ago, as AdAware kept telling me that I can d/l the new 8.1. Since then, much posting here has been directed at the problem I & others have, as well as you do on your Vista: “As for the Vista, it sticks on "Current Section: Processes, Current Object: c:\program files\lavasoft\ad-ware\aawservice.exe". But the last update was on the 19th by valued member ‘Visitor,’ who directs such questions to an updated thread to tell us that they’re working on it. However, I have not seen anything since then, so I’m assuming that we’ll just have to wait a bit. I would like to see a more current update to this, & if there is one & I didn’t catch that, please let me know. Likewise, when I hear anything new I’ll pass that on. Al
 15. Hi, I'm having the same problem, which was discussed in a previous forum about 3-5 days ago. For instance, I had tried to update to the new 8.1 version from Anniversary Ed, from a pop-up when I was opening AdAware. So I did all that & ended up with a new version that was flawed as others noted in the forum……………….. “Ad-Aware 8.1.0 "Update" pop-up window PROBLEM RESOLVED!!!First, I would like to thank louie2 for his contributions and postings #27 and #29 and #30. Following louie2's lead, I elected to remove all traces of Ad-Aware from my computer….†Therefore, I uninstalled with Revo, & deleted any other traces (like empty folders) I could find. FWIW, Revo uses the Adaware uninstaller 1st, then mops up; but there are often app folders or other places that Revo doesn’t find. Someone else said they had the same problem last time, & they also said “it was resolved.†So I reinstalled a fresh program 10/20 in the AM. But much to my dismay, here’s where it froze (I waited 2 hours just in case it really was deep scanning!) ADAWARE STOPPED @ SCANNING 10453 OBJECTS. Current OBJECT: enumerating clsid’s Scan time (full) 02:35 Current selection: Critical Areas Tried to stop scan button but it wouldn’t—only by the red X, but then the same problem as with the ist update installation: looked at Task Manager & it was still running @ 50% CPU, AAWservices…(I think that’s how it looked). Anyway, tried again 10/20 in the PM using only quick scan, but Adware STOPPED SCANNING @ 10819 OBJECTS (a little further). Again, the Current OBJECT: enumerating clsid’s Again, tried to stop scan button but wouldn’t, only by red X, & then same problem: still running @ 50% CPU! BTW I’ve had AdAware on the only 2 computers I’ve owned = about 5 years. So any help appreciated. Al
