1. I just applied version 8.2.2 and thank God I was able to complete a full disk scan! It did find malware, but I've no idea if that was part of the original problem or not.
 2.
Unfortunately guys... I agree with you. I, personally, think that the software did need more testing before it was released. We, as beta testers, weren't even told that they had released until a few days later (I found out by someone requesting help with 8.2). There were bugs we'd reported and hadn't been fixed - even in the released version (some of which you guys have run into here). Lavasoft have emailed me about this and have apologised for the breakdown between testers and themselves - so I hope this will improve in the future. That said, I think we (yes, I am also experiencing problems with 8.2) have waited too long for some bug fixes. Personally, if they're waiting to release because there's say one bug that at the moment they're unable to fix... I'd rather they release a fix for the other bugs and then another fix later on. visitor and I have been reporting things to Lavasoft, but we've had little response to our reports and concerns. Casey
You've got to be joking. I like tinkering with computers, but I don't like giving my money to a company so I have the opportunity to tinker on my computer for hours on end when there are still known issues in the code. I fully expect the company to communicate concisely what the issues are in versions 8.1 and 8.2 so we know the risk and can make a good decision about whether to buy another product or wait for the fixes. If this doesn't happen very quickly, there is an obvious management problem at the company and I will have lost all confidence, there will be no option but to uninstall the software, demand a refund, and take my business elsewhere.
 3.
For paying customers, Lavasoft has gone to marketing a "security suite" similar to their competitors. I guess the surveys must show that if users are going to pay for software, they want it to do it all.
Now that I've become a paying user (last year, just before 8.1) I don't expect it to "do it all" but I expect it to work, to not cause my computer to hang for 30 minutes when it boots, and if there is a problem I expect it to be fixed in HOURS or at most DAYS but NOT A MONTH!!!! Nothing personal Visitor, but if they don't want a bunch of refund requests, they had better get busy.
 4. Thanks for your response, that's good to know. I don't have any other symptoms besides some performance issues that can be explained by other things, for example we just recently enabled Microsoft Live Family Safety. I've been busy uninstalling unnecessary software and fixing issues with Windows update etc in the meantime. My main concern is I am not confident that the software is protecting me at this point. For now I have Spybot Search & Destroy loaded but AVG's free version for virus protection still detects Ad-Aware's presence even though I've used both Revo Uninstall and CC Clean + a couple reboots to make sure that no trace is left.
 5.
From looking at the blog you linked to visitor, which is dated feb19th, it looks like they think it is fixed. Are they still working on a fix? I don't know, it doesn't seem like it or we would have one by now. It has been a few weeks now. I'm also still waiting for them to fix the problem I've been having since last fall. I'm tired of having to help ad-aware finish the auto update function. I have pointed them to where the problem is with this info. (I noticed that when I reboot my computer Ad-Aware starts up with the AAWTray.exe at the user level. When it is loaded at the user level it does successfully update but after the update AAWTray is running at system level instead of user level. When the AAWTray is running at system level update fails as i reported in previous posts.) And the new version 8.2; In my opinion I think lavasoft is trying to do more than any of us want. We have all been used to using ad-aware to take care of malware for many years but now they are trying to do other things like anti-virus and file protection etc. Most everyone already have anti-virus software installed which leads to conflicts with more than one program trying to do the same job. Please lavasoft go back to doing the one thing that you do best, protecting us from malware. I think that is all we want.
I just rated their product at CNET, I think everyone else should too. http://reviews.cnet.com/software/ad-aware-...l?tag=mncol;lst
 6.
Hi, Your best option is just to wait until Lavasoft release a software update for these sort of bugs. If this doesn't fix it then contact Lavasoft again. Casey
Casey, I know you're just a volunteer, but... Paying customers don't want to wait until there is a patch for version 8.2. Paying customers demand personal, prompt service or they take their business elsewhere. I've sent another email and we'll see how Lavasoft responds. I like the product (when it worked) but there are LOTS of alternate products to protect against viruses and spyware. Thanks, db
 7. Since no one replied, does that mean I'm not infected, and it's just Ad-Aware that is broken???

 10. I've tried several uninstall/reinstalls using Revo, tried the scan in versions 8.1.2, 8.1.4 and 8.2, fully booted and in safe mode, and scanning still crashes the application. I've had lots of headaches performing the uninstall/reinstall procedures as well, such as a new problem with the Visual C++ Runtime. After closing and restarting Adaware after the crash, it exhibits: "Ad-Aware was shut down unexpectedly and has generated an error report. By sending the error report to Lavasoft you can help us identify the problem and fix it. Click ok to send the report (no other information will be sent) or cancel if you prefer not to send it." I am a paying customer who is VERY close to requesting a refund for the license on BOTH of my machines. I have better ways of spending my time. 11. I am still having problems completing a successful scan using 8.2. I have uninstalled and went back to 8.1.2 twice now, and tried on 8.1.4, still no joy. On the last uninstall, I could not reinstall direct to version 8.2, said "Microsoft Visual Studio C++ Runtime 9.0 Service Pack 1 could not be installed. Please use Windows update to install this component manually." heh. Windows updated didn't know I needed that component and of course won't let you browse to it. I reinstalled .NET 3.5 SP1, still would not install. Lavasoft support staff gave me the link to C++ Runtime, installed, then used Windows update to apply a patch to it, still would not install. Installed version 8.1.2 (again), updated immediately to 8.2 (per tech's instructions), booted into safe mode, tried to scan, and it hangs. You have to completely exit and when you restart you get the now infamous "Ad-Aware was shut down unexpectedly and has generated an error report. By sending the error report to Lavasoft you can help us identify the problem and fix it. Click ok to send the report (no other information will be sent) or cancel if you prefer not to send it."
