QLowZones-15 and God knows what else...

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone -

Despite my best efforts, it looks like I got hit with some kind of Trojan.

The current symptoms are:

McAfee reports to me every 10 minutes or so that it's found a QLowZones-15 trojan in the file bgates[1].exe, but it can't delete it. I've run AdAware several times and Spybot as well, but it won't clean up. My Browser always defaults to a homepage of www.sysprotectionpage.com, although I've changed it back in internet options, and when I boot I get a McAfee dialog box that has me select "Yes" in order to run Mcafee and not the "Windows Security" or whatever it's called.

I just ran the latest version of AdAware, freshly updated, and then did an HJT log. Can anyone tell me anything?

Here's the log:

Hello,

It's better to print out the next instructions or save them in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.

It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

* Open hijackthis, click 'config' (bottom right)

Choose the tab 'misc Tools' on top.

Choose 'delete a file on reboot'

In the field, copy and paste next:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winjks32.dll

Click open.

Hijackthis will tell you that this file will be deleted on next reboot and if you want to reboot now. Click Yes/ok

Your system should reboot now.

* Download smitRem and save the file to your desktop.

Doubleclick it and choose install. This will create a new folder on your desktop with the name smitrem.

* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)

°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present:

O2 - BHO: Nothing - {5f4c3d09-b3b9-4f88-aa82-31332fee1c08} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp100.tmp

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DellSupport] "C:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exe" /startup <= not required

O16 - DPF: {00000000-0000-0000-0000-100000000003} - http://code.trasferimento.biz/l/4b41fefe18...fb4d0458_35.exe

O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://zone.msn.com/bingame/dim2/default/popcaploader_v6.cab

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winjks32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winjks32.dll

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

* Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.

Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

* Reboot back into Windows normal mode.

Post a new HijackThis Log and the contents of smitfiles.txt which is present on your Homedrive (C:\ in most cases)

in you next reply.

Hi guys,

I seem to have the same problem with Evil Tim, the only difference is that I get notification from VirusScan after half an hour on average. It's exactly the same message that Evil Tim refers to. I had no idea of the HijackThis programe b4, but downloaded it and here is the logfile. I would really appreciate if you could give me any advice. Should I follow the process described above?

Thank you

Hi vasilis-uk,

Can you please start a new thread with your log? Don't post your log in someone elses thread, because this is really getting confusing.

Just start a new thread here: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showforum=36

Me or someone else will look at it afterwards.

Thanks
