September 2007, the location of 2 of my desktop icons changed. 2-3 days later startup slowed considerably and many icons appeared to be sloppily ‘cut-out’ and placed on a field of blue. Next day, startup still slow (and since) and it became obvious that the standard desktop (Bliss) was ‘out of focus’. The resolution was still 1024 x 768…it just appeared to be a copy of a copy. I began to wonder if I’d be hijacked.

I visited a couple of sites to get what appears to be the same info you have offered others…in the process downloading SpySweeper, Spy Doctor, Trojan Hunter 5, CWshredder, and others per instructions to clean up before sending a HTlog to the BB.

I am not confident that I used SpyDoctor or the others competently.

The NetGear router was installed around Christmas because I didn't want the kids putting any more crap on the PC I use for school...

Now, upon start up, I will get the Bliss desktop for a few seconds, then a blank blue screen, then blank blue screen with the icons appearing normal, and finally the ‘out of focus’ Bliss screen with the ‘cut out’ icons. I have periodically repeated the scans and sweeps as possible, but the performance has never improved.

Today, I have run a Full scan with Norton AV 2005.

I downloaded the latest version of Ad-Aware, installed it, restarted the computer, got the updates and installed them.

I turned off the Norton AV, and the Norton Protection Center, and ran the Ad-Aware 2007 full scan. I restarted the computer.

I ran a Hijack This scan and kept the log.
