Application Error

Recommended Posts

Not a lost cause, just running through the usual troubleshooting steps to find out what may be causing the problem. So far we have ruled out a number of them. (i.e.; Not a malware problem, not a window installer problem, etc.) Errors in installation can be caused by many different things.

Did you run the check disk utility (different from the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility) that I put up a few posts back?

Here it is again - this will check for any errors on your hard disk

Basic error checking

1. Double left click on the My Computer icon

2. Right click on the “C:†drive

3. Left click on Properties

4. Left click on the Tools tab

5. Left click on Check Now … under Error-checking

6. Left click Start

If you want to do a more in-depth error checking there are 2 other options available:

First option is to Automatically fix file system errors (choosing this option will require a restart of the computer to run). When choosing this option you will see a box pop up that says, "The check disk could not be preformed because exclusive access to the drive could not be obtained. Do you want to schedule this disk check to occur next time you restart the computer?"

When prompted for this you would choose Yes if you want it to run on the next reboot of the system.

The second option for error checking is Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors (this will not require a restart of the system)

I ran the Basic error check and both options....reinstalled 2007 and got the Application Error......Exception EAccess Violation in Module Ad-Aware2007.exe at 001DD084. Access violation at address 005DD084 in module 'Ad-Aware2007.exe.' Read of address 00000414. Same as last time I installed it...

Thanks, if you still have the patience, I'd like to keep looking to see what is blocking this. Could you download and run this free diagnostic tool (it's a lot like the others I had to run and it will also create a new HijackThis log for review)

Remember to save it to your desktop and run it from there.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

  1. Close all applications and windows.
  2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post. in your reply

I think I may have been missing the obvious and I don't think we looked to make the service is running because on those logs it doesn't look like it is.

In Windows 2000 select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

Look for the Ad-Aware Service (near the top of the list)

post-65-1205871763.gif

Rightclick on the the service name and choose *properties*. Under the "General" tab you should see this

post-65-1205871794.gif

Make sure that the Startup Type is: Automatic

If you see under Service status: Stopped, use the *start* button to start the service.

Now if it shows that the service is running Try opening Ad-Aware

Let me know how you make out with that

I followed your instructions....Start...Settings...Control Panel...Administrative Tools...Services...When Services opened the list went like this:- Alerter

Application Manager

Automatic Updates

AVG Spyware

AVG E-mail Scanner

and so on...... I looked down the list to see if it might be listed under Lavasoft, but it wasn't there either.....

Where do we go from here?

Hello, Ileane

If the service is not listed, then the problem lies in the installation and I can't find why yours isn't loading properly. There is something on your computer that is not allowing the service to install

I don't understand it either..the Ad-Aware SE installs perfectly with no trouble..This is the only thing I have had trouble installing...Thanks for your help...you have taught me a lot about my computer..I guess I'll just have to do without the new Ad-Aware.

Hello Ileane,

SE works because it doesn't include the service. But it is also obsolete and been discontinued. I've not seen the service not even install in this case like yours, though we've seen a few problems installs with win2k systems. I'm going to ask the Development team to review all this investigation in this thread to see if they have any ideas as to what may be hindering it. If they have any suggestions or ideas, I will post them here for you ok?

SE will no longer fetch updates through the updater. You'll have to do those manually for as long as the definitions are available for SE and I can't say when those will eventually end as well.

There are some other free antispyware offerings from the following as well. Each of these offers free versions

AVG Antispyware (Grisoft) <--- this is 30 day (I believe) free trial. After that you can keep it even if you choose not to pay for the "realtime" features. It will still work as a manual ondemand scanner after the 30 days even if you don't buy it.

http://www.ewido.net/en/

Spybot Search & Destroy

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

SuperAntispyware

http://www.superantispyware.com/

Windows Defender

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s...e/default.mspx/

Those are are some reliable antispyware products frequently recommended and you can count on to be safe (but I wouldn't run ALL of them - just pick one or two that you like and see how they work for you)

Thank you so much for all your help. Any suggestions anyone can make will be appreciated...I'll keep coming back here to see if the Development team comes up with anything...I know SE is now obsolete, but I'll keep using it for now....Its so quick and easy and I can run it everyday in just a few minutes, some of the others take a very long time...I run some of them once a week. Take care and thanks again.

HELP!!!!! HELP!!!!!

I just found out that after I ran the Fixit Out on March 13 It changed my Hosts file...I also found that after that my e-mail was fouled up...I found that when I forward or try to send e-mail that it seems to work O.K. on my end, but only the address arrives at the addressee's e-mail, no text, no pictures just a big nothing... My AGV says the host file has been changed....Is this what is doing it?

Fix Wareout tool does reset the HOSTS file (it sets it back to the original default set by Windows).

Hosts file was reset, If you use a custom hosts file please replace it...

That is to clear any possible entries put there by malware

So, yes that was changed and if you had a custom HOSTS file with custom entries, you would need to add back in those entries, although none were showing on your HijackThis log.

Were you using a custom HOSTS file? (if you do not know what a HOSTS file is then you probably were not using one). It is used to redirect from one website to another (and sometimes used by some to block websites)

That would not affect your email text though. What email application are you using?

Might be your outlook express is broken? I had similar symptoms with mine one time that was due to a microsoft update. Have you run windows updates about the time it broke?

None of the tools we used here would have affected your email client.

Recheck your settings in OE to see if something has been changed in there.

I don't use Outlook Express. I use straight Hotmail...The last automatic update to my computer was March 12....Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool..March 2008 (KB890830). Could that be my problem??? If so how do I remove it?

I take it for granted that the Development team has not come up with an answer to this problem...so I guess I'll just say goodbye to Ad-Aware...Thanks for all your help....Ileane

Yep.

I have had the same EAccessviolation errors on install of Ad-Aware 2007. SE always ran great. And 2007 runs fine on some of my systems. But NOT the system I am on all day, every day.

It's a shame this is a repetitive and fairly frequent occurrence for the new version. It is even more a shame that Lavasoft can't fix the problem.

I had abandoned 2007 a while back and went with Windows Defender. On a whim I reinstalled 2007 to see if Defender caught as much as 2007 did. Then I remember why I went with Defender to begin with.

Shame really.

Ad-Aware's developers really need to find this sneaky little bug that's floating around.

re-posted from another thread.

Minnesota USA April 16, 2007

Help! I just downloaded the Ad-Aware 2007 free version ..... after I allowed the Lavasoft website through my MS firewall. I'm running MS XP. The program finished loading and I have run both smart scan and detailed scan. (I have uninstalled and re-installed the program 3 times so far - with no change which allows the program to complete.) Anyway, both programs do NOT complete the first scan. I get the following ERROR message:

"AAW service.exe - application error

The exception unknown software exception (0xc 000000d) ocurred in the application at location 0x1006a833

Click OK to terminate program (or)

Click CANCEL to debug program"

When I click CANCEL to debug the scan button ..... the results window appears with no results listed (all zeros) in the window. What is wrong with the program? How do I fix this problem so I can run the program and quaranteen the 69 critical objects which were listed during the aborted program run?

P.S. I hope this FIX is not so much trouble as Ileane's problem (see posts above).

Edited to fix a typo.

Edited to add. Planning to try/use the REVO uninstaller program as suggested by "Telephonics" on the other thread.

Edited again: Loaded and Ran REVO as instructed by Telephonics. Result was NO CHANGE. It didn't fix the Problem.
