Error message with Ad-aware 2007, can't unistall

7 posts in this topic

Hi there, I keep gettin an error message and an annoying screen that says ""Interactive Services Dialog Detection". Keeps coming back every minute, it says is a problem with ad-aware 2007, but when I try to unistall it, it says I can't.........

I am using Vista Home.

Someone knows how to fix this? or how to forcefully uninstall the Ad-aware 2007 program?

Hello,

We're sorry you are having a problem.

If you get an error uninstalling Ad-Aware 2007, look for the following folder and delete it:

C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007

Then proceed to install Ad-Aware 2008 and let us know if that resolves the problem?

We do have word of a bug in Ad-Aware 2007 that is caused by an update to IE7 and that may be what you are encountering. We are working on a resolution, but meantime an update to the new version 2008 does resolve the problem for most. I am told deleting the Ad-Aware 2007 folder in the Lavasoft in Program files will get around the uninstall issue you had.

For XP users: That would be this folder:

C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007

and possibly also this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007

Note the Application Data folder is a hidden folder by default in Windows. You may need to configure your PC to show hidden files to see it:

Windows XP

Click Start.

Open My Computer.

Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.

Select the View Tab.

Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.

Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.

Click Yes to confirm.

Click OK.

................

For Vista users:

Those two folder locations are:

C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007

and possibly

C:\Program Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007

Note the Program Data folder is a hidden folder by default in Windows. You may need to configure your PC to show hidden files to see it.

Reconfigure Windows Vista to show hidden files:

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

•Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.

•Open the Control Panel menu and click Folder Options.

•After the new window appears select the View tab.

•Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.

•Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.

•Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.

•Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.

•Press the Apply button and then the OK button and exit My Computer.

•Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Edit: Added to instruction to look for Ad-Aware 2007 folder in Application Data and also Vista instructions)

Hi :D

@ DR.Z

install Revo ( link in sig.)

back up your system

run Revo in moderate mode or higher

probably Revo will search for the original uninstaller -- cancel that and proceed with Revo

follow the prompts

reboot

That should solve your problem

Regards

Raziel :)
