READY To GIVE up on ad-aware

Recommended Posts

When I had the free version 3 years ago, it was great... then I pay for the upgrade.... THEN came the problems,,, the aaw service tied up my computer to the point that I disabled it. Then 80% of the time when I went to do a manual scan it said core busy error.... NOW the service expired, so I revert back to the free version and up grade to anniversary edition. Downloaded, it deleted old version, loads, restarts computer. I click on the icon, and the picture pops up saying loading, then after about 30 sec, it fades out, and NOTHING happens.. NO SCAN INTERFACE... SO, I uninstall and download another free version, and install again.... SAME PROBLEM.... NO customer support, no information on a fix.... I have added it to my exceptions in my firewal, so i truly have no clue how to get it to scan now,,,, I'll wait a a bit today to see if I get an answer,,, THEN it's bye-bye ad aware....

ok

try this ....

disable trendmicro and reboot, if AE still doesn't work

install 'HijackThis' (sig.), run a scan and copy/paste the log in your next reply.

Raziel

Dear Michael,

As it appears to me, you still have some remaining traces of Ad Aware 2007 on your system.

Here is what you need to do:

First of all, uninstall Ad Aware AE using the Add or remove programs feature in the Windows Control Panel

Then look for the following folders and delete them

- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007

- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\License

- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\MiniMessage

- C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007

Note! This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

Open the 'Registry Editor' by opening 'Windows Start menu -> Run...' and typing "regedit" and click 'Ok'.

Delete the following registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\aawservice

And the following keys, only if present-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ad-Watch Connect Filter

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\aawservice

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Ad-Watch Connect Filter

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\aawservice

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\Ad-Watch Connect Filter

Now download and install Ad Aware AE from the following location:

http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-Anniversa...cdlPid=10998841

Kind regards,

Laleh - QA Specialist

QUESTION.... ARE you telling me that this aaw service that caused me so much problems when I paid for the service is automatically on the free version? I had to disable it because it FROZE my computer all of the time... ATE up memory and caused much wasted time and frustration... IF IT does it again,,, then your techs and programers need a brain transplant... You screwed up a good product and will lose me if that is the case... You already lost me as a paying customer because of the problems with my paid version.
