How to disable Norton tampering?

Recommended Posts

I have Ad-Aware version 8.1 and Norton Internet Security 2010. According to the forum postings, I need to turn off the Norton tampering option in order to fix the problem where Ad-Aware freezes at a certain point during a scan. How do I turn off the Norton tampering? I looked at the Norton settings and didn't see anything with "tampering" in the name.

This is from the Symantec support forums

http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/dis...mper-protection

Disable Tamper Protection:

1. Click the Clients Tab.

2. Select the client group you would like to modify.

3. Click the Policies tab.

4. If this is not the Global group, uncheck Inherit policies and settings from parent group. Ensure that Policy inheritance is OFF.

5. Under Location-independent Policies and Settings, with in the Settings box, click General Settings.

6. Click the Tamper Protection tab.

7. Uncheck Protect Symantec security software from being tampered with or shut down.

Note: these instructions from the Symantec Endpoint forum and may not apply to Norton Internet Security.
