Lavasoft should also post updates in their support blog:

This is ridiculous, can anyone let us know if they are ever going to fix Ad-aware 8.2 or should we uninstall and go to another program. Is Lavasoft Ad-aware over? Thanks :)

From looking at the blog you linked to visitor, which is dated feb19th, it looks like they think it is fixed.

Are they still working on a fix? I don't know, it doesn't seem like it or we would have one by now. It has been a few weeks now.

I'm also still waiting for them to fix the problem I've been having since last fall. I'm tired of having to help ad-aware finish the auto update function. I have pointed them to where the problem is with this info. (I noticed that when I reboot my computer Ad-Aware starts up with the AAWTray.exe at the user level. When it is loaded at the user level it does successfully update but after the update AAWTray is running at system level instead of user level. When the AAWTray is running at system level update fails as i reported in previous posts.)

And the new version 8.2; In my opinion I think lavasoft is trying to do more than any of us want. We have all been used to using ad-aware to take care of malware for many years but now they are trying to do other things like anti-virus and file protection etc. Most everyone already have anti-virus software installed which leads to conflicts with more than one program trying to do the same job.

Please lavasoft go back to doing the one thing that you do best, protecting us from malware. I think that is all we want.

I just rated their product at CNET, I think everyone else should too. http://reviews.cnet.com/software/ad-aware-...l?tag=mncol;lst Edited by dbman63

The blog announced the first fix, but we've been reporting bugs since then. So as long as Lavasoft is reading our info, they should still be working on it.

Ad-Aware doing too much really only holds true for free users who want a stand-alone scanner like the old SE version. For paying customers, Lavasoft has gone to marketing a "security suite" similar to their competitors. I guess the surveys must show that if users are going to pay for software, they want it to do it all. It also has to do with how tech savvy the users are. Tech savvy users are more likely to have several different programs installed, whereas the average user wants simplicity - as shown by Ad-Aware's addition of "simple mode."

Anti-virus and File Protection are features of the paid Plus and Pro versions, so really the Free version is just a malware scanner. Unfortunately, the software is the same, with the serial just unlocking the extra features. The solution would be to develop a separate, simpler utility for the Free version - something that Casey has suggested.

Why the hell are we having to check a forum when Lavasoft have paid customers email addresses? They could email a notification that the new program is stable. My license doesn't run out until the middle on July so I hope to God that they extend it free of charge - they should have tested the software better before releasing it. I'm becoming a tad tired of this.

While many of us have been loyal Ad-aware users (free & paid) have been patient, only wanting a resolution sometime soon, its understandable that others have posted their anger & frustration--some will never come back. However, I wanted to add that I appreciate Visitor & Casey having to be 'in the middle,' trying to help us--at least answering our concerns--while trying to let Lavasoft know what we think & feel about this. So thanks guys. I know you'd be as pleased as any of us to get this resolved.

I agree that "they should have tested the software better before releasing it."
If only because that's the same kind of shi….rt that happened with the release of 8.1 in the fall. Would have hoped that the 8.1 mess would've taught them a lesson.
However, I have no idea what caused either fiasco, or if they're related, but I know that they have suffered a loss of reputation & respect--whatever the level-- & many are "becoming a tad tired of this."

For years Lavasoft has been dependable & reliable, but now they have had “2 strikes (8.1, 8.2) in a row.”
Yet, if they can get this resolved soon, I will just go on & use the protection that AdAware has offered myself & millions of others over the past years.
However, I will be much more cautious in updating to the next version, especially until I see that many, many others have done so without issues, over at least 2 + months.

Unfortunately guys... I agree with you.

I, personally, think that the software did need more testing before it was released. We, as beta testers, weren't even told that they had released until a few days later (I found out by someone requesting help with 8.2). There were bugs we'd reported and hadn't been fixed - even in the released version (some of which you guys have run into here).

Lavasoft have emailed me about this and have apologised for the breakdown between testers and themselves - so I hope this will improve in the future. That said, I think we (yes, I am also experiencing problems with 8.2) have waited too long for some bug fixes. Personally, if they're waiting to release because there's say one bug that at the moment they're unable to fix... I'd rather they release a fix for the other bugs and then another fix later on.

visitor and I have been reporting things to Lavasoft, but we've had little response to our reports and concerns.

Thanks for the reply & info. And thanks for trying to help here, & for taking the HEAT sometimes, from the frustrated users who are venting at y'all, but it is really meant for Lavasoft. You guys are here & respond to us, while the LS staff are not visible here, they are only referenced to.

That goes for me too, i've never meant any of my venting as an attack on any volunteer. I'm just ticked off with lavasoft because they really seem to be dragging their feet on this.

Considering all the problems, the volunteers don't take too much heat, LOL. I've only had 1 person go off on me, and it wasn't directly Ad-Aware related. I ended up volunteering since I was lucky Anniversary Edition worked from the first installation and I always turn off auto-updates. But once I came here, the very next version was buggy and I jumped in since I avoided the bullet ;)

I'm not a beta tester like Casey, but I agree it's maddening. It's one thing to have little GUI bugs and such, but severe bugs that affect a system's usability are bad - like the File Protection module resulting in 30-min response time to execute programs, the email scanner shutting down Outlook, and the ignore list not working.

One reason I kept Anniversary Edition is that the later versions seemed to add stuff I didn't need. Turns out there were also upgrades to the scanning engine, so I may not be as well-protected, but I'm not easily infected and I figure it's safer than having a newer version which may or may not be working properly.

Now that I've become a paying user (last year, just before 8.1) I don't expect it to "do it all" but I expect it to work, to not cause my computer to hang for 30 minutes when it boots, and if there is a problem I expect it to be fixed in HOURS or at most DAYS but NOT A MONTH!!!!

Nothing personal Visitor, but if they don't want a bunch of refund requests, they had better get busy.

You've got to be joking. I like tinkering with computers, but I don't like giving my money to a company so I have the opportunity to tinker on my computer for hours on end when there are still known issues in the code.

I fully expect the company to communicate concisely what the issues are in versions 8.1 and 8.2 so we know the risk and can make a good decision about whether to buy another product or wait for the fixes. If this doesn't happen very quickly, there is an obvious management problem at the company and I will have lost all confidence, there will be no option but to uninstall the software, demand a refund, and take my business elsewhere.

It would be even better if Lavasoft came on here occasionally & took the heat directly!

Better still, would be to announce progress made & approximate time for a resolution!!!
