Which version? (click the "About" button in the bottom-right corner of Ad-Aware). The last version of AE was 8.0.8 and the latest definitions are 0149.0210.

When you say it takes 10 minutes to load, you mean when you boot your computer, or to open the GUI to scan?
As long as there has been no updates to the software, I'm not sure it's Ad-Aware itself. I use version 8.0.3 and haven't had any problems with the definition files which I update manually (download and replace the file, not using Web Update). It could be an update to another security program which suddenly makes it harder for Ad-Aware to execute. Did you make any changes to your system around the time this started happening?

OK, version 8.2.2 is the latest 2010 version, so this is in the wrong forum. I'll move it the th 8.x users forum. Do you have the free version or pay for Plus or Pro license?

You never answered my previous question:

Also, do you have any other security programs running?

It takes about 10 minutes to open - the only other program that is running is McAfee -
Thanks

Might want to check McAfee to see if it quarantined/deleted any Ad-Aware files:

Also, if you have both McAfee and Ad-Aware running resident, real-time protection, try disabling one or the other. I don't have McAfee, but in Ad-Aware go to advanced mode Ad-Watch settings and turn off the Processes module. This will make Ad-Aware an on-demand scanner the next time you reboot.
