Can't Update to 8.2.2

Recommended Posts

I'm currently runniung Windows XP and I recently updated Ad-Aware Free version to 8.2 and immediately started having problems.

#1 - Update won't run: everytime I run webupdate it gets almost finished then has a connection error and shuts down

#2 - System Scan won't run: everytime I run a system scan it interrupts in the middle and shuts down.

I have found both of these errors in the forum as known errors with version 8.2, and it seems that the answer to this is to install the newest version 8.2.2 however my updater won't complete. I need to find a direct install link for version 8.2.2 but it seems that this doesn't exist. So I'm still stuck and can't even run Ad-Aware, despite the fact that this issue seems to be resolved I'm stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Don't know what to tell you other than we (the volunteer helpers) have asked for this also but have yet to get a response from staff.

I just added a link to your post in our request for a new installer.

I, too, am having trouble updating to the new Adaware update. I was given a work around to save it to my desktop and then load it, but with all the troubles everyone still seems to be having, I'm putting it off.

Does anyone recommend updating now, or do you all think I should wait until the bugs are worked out? Thanks.

If you couldn't update before, you'll probably still have problems since the installer is the same. Version 8.2.2 fixed some stability problems, but is available only by Web Update. Most likely you need to wait for them to fix the installer.

Updated info from Lavasoft:
The problems with AAW 8.2 mostly relate to the File protection having conflicts with other AVs and also being more demanding on resources in general (which affect low spec systems). However, these should be Plus and Pro users and you can redirect them to
http://www.lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/support...contact_support

Or are you seeing this with regular FREE users too?

Anyway, the update issues are related to the symptoms of getting a slow system and/or crashing AAW application. The user just don't get to that stage where the update to 8.2.2 finishes.
So the only resolution that really works is:

1. Uninstall 8.2 completely (to reset the system to a normal state: not slow)
2. Then reinstall. Even though the installer is 8.2 the updates to 8.2.2 will be included in the installation. The Ad-Aware installer always checks for updates (and downloads and applies them) before initializing the service and other AAW processes for the first time.
3. Then Ad-Aware will advise that File protection will be turned off if another incompatible AV is running.
4. Problem fixed?

If this procedure is still not working, please report this here and we will address the issue. New installer is not the answer though since the uninstall and reinstall procedure would be required anyway and basically be the same. Any bugs and compatibility issues would be our focus.
