Ad-Aware Mini-Filter driver causing errors

Hi everyone,

New to the forums here. I had the Anniversary Edition installed on a Windows XP Pro, sp3 machine. After uninstalling Ad-Aware, there is an event in Event Viewer:

After running a search for this file, I found that "Lbd" is Lbd.sys, which is a service/system file that is installed by Ad-Aware and loads at system startup (Ad-Aware mini-filter driver). The file still exists on the system and is stored here:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\lbd_1D149FE61E2CD0936E43877117FE3EF0674B9944

There are also multiple registry keys for this file referencing it as the system service that normally runs while it's installed.

Normally, this would be an error that I generally ignore if not causing any problems - Windows is horrible with keeping old settings and files around long after they're gone. However, I'm getting a blue screen STOP error that references an issue with: a) faulty device driver b ) faulty hardware OR c) system service

Lbd.sys falls under the category of "system service" and it is the only driver that is logging errors elsewhere in the system. I am troubleshooting the STOP (blue screen of death) problem and want to remove "Lbd.sys" and all of it's references from the system.

Is there a way to do this easily? Would re-installing Ad-Aware and uninstalling it again possibly get rid of those entries? I don't want to have to delete all the registry keys manually and possibly cause more damage to the system. Any help would be appreciated.

(before you ask - Yes, the system is free of malware and viruses, Yes it is completely updated with all patches, Yes all device drivers are up to date)

This was an issue that was solved a long time ago.

I suggest you try to install AE again and uninstall.

If that does not work try to run ccleaner to remove old reg entries.

While doing all this please disable other security products temporarily.

Thanks for the reply. I read that post as well and it is not the same issue, though it references the same file. I had stated that Ad-aware is NOT installed on this system, it was uninstalled - that guy was running Ad-aware. I'll try the install and uninstall again.

ColTom2 thinks he has found the solution to the Lbd failed to load error after uninstalling Ad-Aware:

I ran Autoruns for Windows [url="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx"]http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx[/url] and screened
it closely and found the culprit. It was listed under HKLM\System|CurrentControlSet\Services and I unticked "Lbd" Ad-aware Mini-Filter Driver. Rebooted and the problem was gone.

However, to be sure I deleted all aspects of the Lavasoft Lbd driver problem failing to load on System Startup I ran
Regedit> HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services and deleted the "Lbd" entry.
Now it is entirely gone and no longer appears in Autoruns.
