Recommended Posts

Hi i keep downloading the 8.3 Ad-Aware update and it is in azabijani when i insaslled the update it compleatly shut down my pc to the extent that i have had to reinstall windows as the trojans knocked out both ad-aware and AVG please confirm that this is not your fault

Are you sure the language was Azerbaijani? There's a known problem with Turkish:

As for the need to reinstall Windows, I'd guess that was the trojans fault rather than AVG or Ad-Aware.

Well when i put the words in to google translate they came up as azabijani alpha so i guess yes it is. and the trojans came down with ad-aware update

Did you update from the Ad-Aware GUI or download it from one of the Lavasoft mirrors? If the installer came from a legit mirror and is infected, I'm sure Lavasoft would like to know ;)

If they can't determine for sure or it's not a widespread problem indicating the source, I may need to drop the posts you've made saying Ad-Aware is malicious. Also, it will help if you have the suspect file so they can take a look at it.

In the meantime, I'll let Lavasoft know about this topic since they only know about the Turkish language problem, and they can keep an eye on the trojan thing. Edited by visitor

I didn't say your posts are malicious - your posts say that Ad-Aware is malicious. We need to verify your claims that the trojans originated from the Ad-Aware update. So, as I asked, how/where did you get the update? And do you still have the suspect file?

the down loads first came from the pop up when i opened ad-aware on my pc the second time after i re-installed xp came from both file hippo and c-net i did not install the down loads from c-net or filehippo as they looked exactly the same as the pop up down load that killed my pc Edited by heriss

Thanks, I've added the source info so Lavasoft can have a look. BTW, this is one reason why it would be nice if the MD-5 hash was given for the installer and definition files.
