System Tray Icon

Recommended Posts

Until I updated to v.8.3.0, the icon would show in the tray on the right after start up. Now it only resides there after I have double clicked on the desktop to open the programme. Next time I switch on, the icon is shown as a short cut in the left tray. I've looked into msconfig and the start up box for AdAware is ticked. Surely the programme icon should always show in the right tray? If not, is it working in the background or do I always have to open it from the desktop? Please advise (not too technical, please).

Go to advanced mode settings:

Ad-Watch Live! - make sure Ad-Watch module(s) are checked.

Customize - General - make sure "Show notification icon" is checked.

It shouldn't matter that you have the free version. Go to Start -> Run -> services.msc and see if the Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service is set to automatic.

Also, when the tray icon is missing, open Task Manager to see what processes are running. Then click the desktop icon to generate the tray icon and see what process starts - in prior versions, it's AAWTray.exe (same with the msconfig startup entry), just wondering if they changed it.

Apologies for not coming back sooner - been a busy day!

Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service is set to automatic.

AAWTray.exe is running.

The icon appeared this morning on start up in the right task tray. Yesterday, it was lurking in the left short-cut tray, so I deleted the short-cut. We shall see what happens in the future, but thank you for all your trouble and help.

The left tray icons (task bar) are similar to desktop icons, so that should stay deleted. If you want it back, you can drag a copy of it from the desktop to the task bar.

The right tray (system tray) icons are generated by Ad-Aware, AAWTray.exe. So if that icon disappears when all the settings are correct and the service is running, I think it's a bug in the program.

Myself and other users had similar problems a few months ago. You can look at the posts about it starting with this one. They may help.

Found another topic, but not sure if it's the same problem as it discusses all tray icons, not just Ad-Aware:
