Flashutil10h_activex.exe Block or Allow

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I just got a message from Ad-aware Free (ver 8.3.1) that Flashutil10h_activex.exe was trying to update the Registry and asking whether to Block or Allow. I blocked it (twice). I wasn’t trying to install or uninstall Flash Player so was surprised to get this message. Should this occur or might there be a Trojan or virus imitating Flash Player? At the time I had Outlook, IE and Adobe Bridge running. Has anyone else has this message?

I think it may be Flash auto-update. Since IE was open, you may have been on a page with Flash content. I've noticed since my last Flash update, I've been getting popup notices telling me when updates are available. To turn off the notification, you need to access the controls:

http://www.macromedia.com/support/document..._manager05.html

I don't think it should be tweaking the registry unless you click "install update," but maybe it is. Try turning it off to see if it fixes the problem.

I know for a fact that the Flashutil10h_activex.exe file gets installed in the \Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\ folder, so that file should be safe to use.

BTW, a new version of Flash Player 10.1 is out and the newest EXE file like that is FlashUtil10i_ActiveX.exe.
