Ibrad 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2010 Hi, I have a question, I am interested in using Ad-Aware however I already have a anti-virus that I like (Panda Cloud). Since Ad-Aware AE is the last version of Ad-Aware that does not have a built in AV scanner can I still run Ad-Aware AE and update it without it attempting to automatically upgrade to the version with AV? Will this version be supported for a while or is it already at end of life?
visitor 3 Report post Posted September 17, 2010 Anniversary Edition version 8.0.x is still supported, but it's not the last version without anti-virus - that started with the 8.3 free version. Personally, I still use the AE version since it's been relatively bug free compared to what I read hear about versions 8.1 through 8.3. The next version to reach EOL will be 2008, then AE. Ibrad 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2010 Thanks! I think I am going to install AE and run it next to my Panda Cloud - PrivateFirewall -ClearCloud setup. Could you share a download link to this version every link I can not find a download link to AE.
visitor 3 Report post Posted September 18, 2010 (edited) Go to filehippo.com and look for Lavasoft Ad-Aware version 8.0.x The main page will have the current version. Prior versions are listed on the right side. Edited September 18, 2010 by visitor
Ibrad 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2010 Ah thank you very much, so I figure Ad-Aware will not automatically install a later version. Also seems like the last version without a AV is 8.2, looking around I guess it can still be called AE because it does not include AV (I will download as soon as I get it confirmed that is the latest version without AV and it will not automatically upgrade to a later version)
visitor 3 Report post Posted September 19, 2010 Technically, Anniversary Edition is version 8.0.x. Later versions without the AV (8.1 and 8.2) were called Ad-Aware 2010. The AE installer will install 8.0.0 and automatically update. When I first installed AE, it updated to 8.0.3, and I turned off auto-update since it was working, then just updated the definitions manually. Recently, over a year later, I somehow accidentally updated and it installed the final version 8.0.9 (a version they didn't even announce here). Luckily, it still works bug-free - I was worried. I still download and import the definitions manually.

I though the last release of Ad-aware AE was 8.0.8 before Ad-aware 8.1.0 came out. cool!
