Ad-Aware hängt...

Recommended Posts

What other security products, for example antivirus program, are installed in the computer?

Excuse me!!!
Once again:
Ad-Aware stopt always with the Systemscan. Indeed, the time goes on, but otherwise nothing happens. One cannot stop the Scan, but must finish Ad-Aware by hand. I have already uninstalled Ad-Aware and have installed again, nothing has brought. The intelligent Scan functions perfectly. My anti-viruses-program "Bullguard" is deactivated.

Hi !

We have (means: my parents) exactly the same problem. Since several months Ad-Aware freezes while scanning, though the clock is going on.
Everytime I'm here I try it anew to find a solution, but without any success.
I reinstalled the program several times - but it's always the same: each scan stops between 4700-5792 files and runs and runs further on without any result - mostly somewhere in C:\users\appdata\local\*.*
It simply doesn't find an end, although it's not moving anymore.

To close the program I have to go into the processes within the TaskManager or to shut down the laptop.
I don't know, if it has something to do with it, but the system runs with Vista SP2.

On my own laptop with Win7 I have no such problem ans Ad-aware runs without any problems.

I hope you can help.

Even if Bullguard is deactivated it might be a conflict.
Have you disabled Ad-Watch in Ad-Aware?

Is another antivirus program installed in that computer?

Maybe there are a lot of temporary files in C:\users\appdata\local\...
Remove them by running Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button and then type Cleanmgr.

The problems you are describing are most likely caused by a conflict with 3rd party Anti-Virus products.

Please note: Ad-Aware is an Internet Security application that provides full Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware and Anti-Malware realtime protection.
If you use more than one real-time anti-virus or anti-spyware scanner at the same time, your computer may experience decreased performance, become unstable, or restart unexpectedly.

We recommend following these instructions to resolve the issue:

If you have any other AV programs installed you should temporarily disable or uninstall other security-related programs before (re)installing Ad-Aware. Download here:

http://installer.lavasoft.com/adaware/

IF you are running Ad-Aware Pro:_ After installation you need to make sure that the "Files protection" module in Ad-Aware settings->Ad-Watch Live is disabled, if you want to run Ad-Aware side by side with another AV product.

Further, you should configure your 3rd party AV products so they do NOT have any self protection modules enabled, before re initiating the 3rd party AV protection.
If you still have problems you may not have successfully disabled the 3rd party AV. It is very common that processes and protection features that are deemed essential are still active despite turning it off.

That being the case, you need to terminate the processes completely. Please contact the Tech Support at the company that makes the 3rd party product for help on shutting down the protection completely.

Final note: As a reference on how Ad-Aware compares to other AntiVirus products, check out this article on the VB100 test:

Hm, we have on both computers the free version of Avira Antivir - as well as we have the free version of Ad-Aware - and as I said, I have no problems on my own laptop with Win7, but only on the Vista-laptop of my parents.

unfortunately I don't know Vista enough, but I will try both advices.
