AAWService.exe utilising majority of CPU resources

Question

When I cold boot the PC initially reponse time and performanence is really poor initially!

When I look in the Process tab of Task Manager I notice that AAWService is hogging the vast majority of CPU . The lack of resources makes running any other program totally impossible for about 10-15 minutes.

I am running the free version 9.0.5

Any ideas would really be appreciated.

Hi BriMac,

Do you have another antivirusprogram or other security programs than Ad-Aware?
Do you leave AVG open while scanning?

Yes I have AVG and Spybot installed and I leave both systems as they are.

This issue has only started in the very recent past. I have been running these systems for a number of years apparently without issue Edited by BriMac

With Ad-Aware version 9 an antivirus program is included. Lavasoft is trying to get Ad-Aware compatible with other antivirus programs but there might be a conflict with AVG. One way to test that is if you turn off the 'Resident Shiled' in AVG and then restart the computer.

You might also read the topic http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=31114 since there are other descriptions of slow startup of Ad-Aware.

Slow startup is common especially when the program is fighting with others to get to the same spot, if that makes sense. You need to alter your start up items.
