Suggestions & ideas - what features would you like to see in Ad-Aware 10?

Recommended Posts

Hi support,

Just wanted to give my feedback on things I'd like to see changed as soon as possible.

1) The 'Ad-Aware will continue to protect' pop-up is irritating and unnecessary. I maintain my mother's PC and the last thing I want to hear is her go on about this little pop-up appearing all the time whenever we talk over the phone. It is making me think about removing the Ad-Aware solution and try a different provider. This may seem silly, but little things like this count for a lot. As an application developer myself, I know that this can be very quickly fixed so I urge you to do so, allowing feedback to be on perhaps more important matters.

2) Due to my mother's eyesight, she runs her display in 800x600 mode. The full screen provision for this on the new interface is simply not good enough as it assumes 1024x768 minimum. I would certainly think twice at using any piece of software which wouldn't gracefully degrade based on screen resolution like this.

3) Previous comments about the scheduled scan indicated that it does not happen in the background, bringing the interface on screen while it is performed. If that is the case then this, combined with the problems outlined above, mean that this is not fit for the purpose of leaving it as a managed anti-virus/anti-spyware solution for this PC. A scheduled scan should be, in my view and experience, a discrete action which happens in the background. I realise you have had alternative feedback upon this subject already, but that suggests to me that such behaviour should therefore be optional.

I trust that these issues will be addressed in the next and subsequent updates.

Kind regards,

~fractos.

Hi fractos,

3) Nowadays I don't notice that Ad-Aware does a scheduled scan.

Make it possible for users to translate Ad-Aware, at least for themselves and their friends.

http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?/topic/32130-translations-v10/

Hello,

Reading this seems a good occasion to alert that I am french and after two minutes of displaying in French, I went back to English for safety reasons. Just below the choice of the language, I see "Minimize button action", that is translated as if the topic was to reduce the action button, whereas in fact it is to set what the action of the minimize button is.

In this case it is somewhat obvious, at least that there is a problem with what is displayed, but in some other circumstances, doors may be quite opened to viruses because of a bad understanding. You cannot ask an interpreter to receive a table of messages and translate in the table, otherwise it gives this sort of results. A translation must always be contextual, meaning that the interpret must have access to the interface he/she is translating, and take the time to do it just the time to verify that the texts that appear really fit the situation. You have texts that appear on the form, tooltips, not to speak of help files, and some of those are context dependant, implying that the interpret must receive a sufficient information about what needs to be modified to get the different texts appear.

Hello,

Would you admit a user to comment ?

1/ I have to admit I should not have thought to that. When the window is closed, it can sometimes be a fear (is it really just minimized, or did I accidentally close the program ?)

But it is right that some users may have different reactions.

2/ Oh yes. I once saw a 3G key that needed a very large screen configuration to install, to display forms where there was practically nothing written but a few words at the top and two buttons at the bottom, whereas a 3G key, from my point of view, is typically an equipment you install on a laptop, preferably a little one.

The screens of AdAware display a lot more information, making it difficult to imagine how you can manage that on a more little screen. Maybe one or two tabs more can be a solution, as an anti-virus also is needed on a laptop you use to browse in different places.

For the time being, I see that information properly, on a 1024x600 resolution that was proposed with the less expansive laptop. But I know that with the time my view will become less effective. This can be a reason to discourage the use of a full graphic display, even if it is a lot more beautiful, as it does not allow the use of adaptation hardware for people with specific needs, to read the text. If a focus has to be placed on aesthetic, perhaps a few things can be optional to adapt to these considerations.

Hello,

I do not know whether this is the good place to tell it, but I just discovered how to get the title bar of the AdAware form (which is useful as it contains a button to minimize the form, and another to close it, as generally speaking on Windows applications), that is not visible by default. You just have to double click at the top of the form.

I have few tendency to do that, as I use the Microsoft Office bar, that displays at the border of the screen when you approach the mouse cursor, and disappears when you get it away.

So, I used the other way to get out of that : depressing the Windows key (I have to do it three times because I use the remanent keys -not sure of the translation : you press shift, and with the same finger you can then depress the letter you want to capitalize ...)

These considerations interest people with screen resolutions of 600 height.

The first time I was looking for the french forums I got a 404 error. It seems they now exist ...

Well, shall see ...

Hi destrock,

To know the original location/path of a file in the quarantine, you double-click it.

well what i had 2 days ago was that adaware just randomly closed iself!?

it gave a popup with: A problem occurred, adaware will close now. are you kidding me? it didn't even restart by itself

i had to manually restart the program. i dont feel safe anymore knowing that a virus can just make "A problem occur" and close the antivirus that way and then the virus can just do whatever it wants.

Consider changing the way activations work. By having only one key per email address, this creates a huge headache for someone who operates a PC business, IT, or anyone in the field who needs to install a free anti-virus for their clients or family. I know this first hand. Using the customers email address for activations is a huge overhead.

Avast has a similar activation method to Ad-Aware (one key for one year). The only difference is Avast would send you multiple keys to the same email address. Therefore, you could use the same email for all your clients. Even though Avast did not get separate, individual email addresses that they may have preferred, I sure did pump out a lot of installations for them in the past by the convenience it offered me.

Please consider changing the way activations work. It takes up way too much time to call a customer, get them to log into there email account, listen to the key over the phone (or get them to email the key) and hope you are hearing it right...etc. You get the picture. And the last thing I want to do is let them leave the shop with the product still in trial. From my experience, if you don't do it for them...it probably will not get done (activated when they get home).

Thanks for your time!

I am testing ad aware free 10.5 for a while now and it seems it works pretty nice on my system. I would like to see better performance optimalization thou; less ram usage (on my machine it is usually between 50mb to 100mb when system is idle). I will be glad to see something like active http scanning module and some kind of hips that block suspicious processes or monitor them in free version.

Greetings

Need option to delay initial update check after starting please.

I'd like a way to stop Free Antivirus from checking for udates immediately after starting.

I want my PC to boot up and be usable as fast as possible. Initially delaying Antivirus checking for updates by 3 - 5 minutes should do it.

I'd like an option/configuration setting or even a dreaded registry key to do this (like the INI file setting for Avast).

Many thanks.
