Will Ad-Aware interfere with my other antivirus program?

Recommended Posts

I have version 9 and today received a nag screen saying the program is out of date. My version is paid for Pro.

I get aaw2009 excluded build 156.8.33 aawdef when I try to up date and nothing seems to happen. Does this mean I will no longer receive definitions?

I cannot update to 10 because I run Bitdefender albeit an older version on windows XP Proffesional SP3. Does this mean that effectively Adware has stopped me using the program that I paid for? I can only get rid of the nag screen by cntrl alt delete every time I open the program.

Hi moemoff,

See the answer above your question and to your question earlier this year: http://www.lavasofts...post__p__133138
Ad-Aware versions older than 9 are not supported any more.

Since you have bought the product, you can use the Lavasoft support instead of this forum with volunteers: http://lavasoft.com/...contact_support

I think you are right .. I will go elsewhere .. will ask them for a refund since without definitions the program is useless and not fit for purpose. Edited by moemoff

But Ad-Aware 9.6 gets new definitions every day and will continue to do for a long time. Sorry, if I wrote something that could be interpreted in another way.

Why not check if Ad-Aware 10.1 or later versions will work together with Norton before you decide that?

Are you installing 10.1? It is important that you don't install 10.0.

Create a system restore point before installing Ad-Aware 10.1, if there will be a problem in your computer. Be sure that you know how to start in Safe mode and do a system restore if necessary.

And you don't want to uninstall Norton.

Before the support of 9.6 ends, I think Lavasoft will release at least 10.2, which maybe works better for you.

I don't know at all what plans Lavasoft has for future versions, but since they made 10.1 work better with other antivirusprogram compared to 10.0, it would be strange if they made it worse again.

I don't want constant upgrade nag screens on v9.6, and v10.1 blue-screens my system on reboot (Trend Titanium is loaded). so I'm just going to remove Ad-Aware until they get the glitches worked out.

I don't know how much resources Spybot Search & Destroy needs, but my experience is that it finds less that Ad-Aware. I'm running Ad-Aware 10 (and 9.6 before that) together with Spybot S&D without any issues.

Ad-Aware 10 uses less resources that Ad-Aware 9. Isn't Norton using too much resources to be used on an older computer with only 1 GB RAM?
