Secure Search Lavasoft

Recommended Posts

I haven't installed any of your software, or anything period, but this morning when I launched Google Chrome, an additional tab opened and was this Lavasoft Secure Search. I don't want this but can't figure out how to get rid of it as it isn't anything in my add/remove programs.

Please tell me how to remove this secure search.

You are welcome :)

I'm glad it has been resolved.

Have you downloaded a freeware program recently?

No, I haven't downloaded anything... this morning I opened up Chrome and realized another tab opened and it was this securesearchlavasoft.com and then AdBlock also came up and I didn't install that either... it was like it self-installed. From what I could find the AdBlock is safe so I left it. But something I read when trying to figure out this Lavasoft search, I saw that it was Malware and the feed said I needed to first go into task manager and stop the process Random.exe and then search my C drive for other references to this "random" file references... and I think next it wanted me to to into regedit. I didn't dare do all that so I found this forum and here I am!

It's nothing malicious with Lavasoft's secure search, it's the Blekko search engine that specialises in safe search results, see http://blekko.com/about and https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/blekko.com and it doesn't have a process with a random name or called Random.exe (whatever that page meant).

Secured Search page.
click on the lines at top right corner of screen, whatever they're called.
go to settings
in the settings under search go to manage search engines
under default search settings i had 5 different search engines listed
I deleted the names of each unwanted search engine then deleted the web addresses
then I clicked done and that took care of it.
I restarted and everything is fine. ( for now )
