Suggestions & ideas - what features would you like to see in Ad-Aware 11 or 12?

Question

Ad-Aware 11.0 have now been released, but let Lavasoft know what improvements you want them to include in future versions.

If you have a idea for a new feature, something you'd like to see in the GUI or any other suggestions you have to make Ad-Aware 11 better, post them here.

Be as detailed as you like!

Please, try to only post suggestions and short answers in this topic. If you want help with an issue, please start your own topic.

Who the hell designs your GUI? And you gave it the thumbs up in your staff meeting!

Hmm.... why not make it so small that you need a slide bar on the righthand side to make things very annoying, and then have no maximise button to boot. Arrgghhh... my fists are punching my head. WFFS???

Worst version update I have seen in years.

  • Option not available on FREE version
  • Option not available on FREE version
  • Option not available on FREE version
  • Option not available on FREE version

Just what we like. In that case, don't put it on then.

Why ask us if we want any new features? You wouldn't include them on a free version in any case!

Quick Scan takes 30 minutes to perform! Dear God.

Custom Scan Settings - what's happened to all the options found on v10?

Then you tell me to uninstall other incompatible programs... I don't think so guys.

Most of us use several programs by other companies and we ain't gonna be ditching our MBAM, Avast, SAS, Spybot S+D, Exterminate it, just to run your sole product.

Hello Kendo Nagasaki sees red,

Thank you for your post.

First, I would like to assure you that we appreciate all the feedbacks form our users and try to implement as much ideas as we can.

  1. About program size. In Ad-Aware 10, for example, we received a lot of complains that program is too big and cannot be used on small laptops, so Ad-Aware 11 can. About resizable GUI, it is already in our List of suggestion (as some users have already told about that).
  2. About features available. Each product version has its features available, it is business logic. You can find description of the features available in every version on the site. If you have suggestions what features should be in Free version, please write and we will add them to our List of suggestion.
  3. Quick Scan takes 30 minutes to perform!” – quick scan is different from Ad-Aware 10, it is more complete. All running processes, registry, cookies are being scanned.
  4. Some of custom scan options are enabled by default. All options that can be configured by user are available.
  5. Then you tell me to uninstall other incompatible programs...” Ad-Aware 11 is complete, all-in-one antivirus and antispyware which can be installed as second line of defense only without any drivers. When you click on feature, which is not available, the massage appears that warns you that you already have another antivirus program installed. If you install drivers after that, that means that you are aware of all problems that can arise and you did it on your own risk. Having the same features installed can result of many problems, including crashes, slowdowns and computer freezing. Even having the same features installed, but not activated, can cause problems on the driver level. That is why we warn users not to install drivers if they already have antivirus programs installed.

Regards,

Ann

Regarding the fact that Ad-Aware is detecting an incompatable software during the install:

Since Ad-Aware apparently knows about the incompatable software, why not just make things so much easier for the user and actually tell us what the incompatable software is? I never understood why programmers would choose to withhold information that would instantly solve our problem.

Why should I need to hunt all over the place for this information when Ad-Aware seems to know all about the conflict? Baffling.

Version 11 is incredibly ugly. whoever okay'ed that design should be kicked back to 1983 he/she have nothing to do here in 2013. you should imidiatly release a version with the same loks as version 10.5

I get the issue about "detecting an incompatible software" when trying to upgrade from AdAware 10 to 11.

I don't believe I have any other anti-virus, certainly nothing actually running.

Why can't you just tell us what "incompatible software" has been detected ? Is that a lot to ask ? Or do Lavasoft just prefer to make things difficult for end-users ?

I don't want a 2nd line only install, I want what I had under the previous release.

How do I find out what incompatible software you think I am running ? How do I force a proper install ?

Hello All,

scyntax - this is in out task list and should be implemented in one of the future realeases.

MementoMori - You can stay using Ad-Aware 10.5, if you like it more. Unfortunately, it is impossible to create anything to be liked by everyone. You call it ugly, others like it.

ST2005 - you could not get detecting an incompatible software during update. I think you just saw the window telling that you have the previous Ad-Aware version installed and that it should be uninstalled before installing Ad-Aware 11. Can you please check it and send us screenshot?

"Why can't you just tell us what "incompatible software" has been detected ?" - if an incompatible program was detected you have only an option to install program in incomatible mode and you have only one button called "Compatible Install", otherwise you have 2 options to install software "Express Install" and "Compatible Install".

Thanks,

Ann

about small laptop users....................

here's a suggestion, why not issue the "new sleek" interface for small laptops / tablets /phones.

and the far superior (imho) 10.5 interface for everything else ?

there are so many device types out there now, it is difficult to come up with a "one size fits all" product.

would it not be easier to have two versions ?

1. for lower powered phones, tablets, "small / older" laptops etc, with version 11 GUI, how about a name like "adaware reslite" (resource light)

2. for the multicore desktops and laptops, with "all" configuration options available to the user, with 10.5 GUI.

as a desktop / laptop user, I vote for # 2 obviously.

I know we get used to things over time, but this new interface is just horrible (imho).

It's plain, bland, and boring, and whats with the colour blue, what does that mean......sad ?

the 10.5 interface was so logical, with it's use of red, orange, green, it's the international traffic light standard, it makes perfect sense.

red = danger, orange/yellow = caution, and green = safe / go

when I saw blue for safe, I wondered what was going to be the colour for danger.... black ? pink ? aquamarine ? brown ?

on to another point, with total security 10.5, pc-tuneup was included.

with version 11 it is not listed, but the price has gone up !

so it's more expensive for less product ?

I know we are all different, and..... like Marmite/vegimite, some love it and some hate it, but with this interface, on a multicore machine, to me it's just bland, boring and makes no sense at all.

Hey everybody, I just downloaded from Softpedia, quickly and with out errors. The problem is most likely CNET tring to install an new browser or home page. Never trust CNET, the worst download server on the net, or at least the one with the most bloatware.

Hi Eejit,

Thank you for the post.

We understand you and appreciate your suggestions and comments.

Some comments, the Ad-Aware 11 is a program for PC/laptops only, no tablets and phones.

Such design is a business decision and marketology strategy based on users' preferences and reviews.

We will take your opinion into considerations for sure.

Thank you,

Ann

I am running the free version of Ad-Aware 11 . In Ad-Aware 10, after a scan you would list the cookies etc. found and give us the option to remove, quarantine or leave them alone along with a recommended action. Seems that Ad-Aware 11 does not give you that option it simply removes or quarantines them.

It would be nice to return this feature from Ad-aware 10 to Ad-aware 11

I would like to start off by stating that I created a forum account just to reply on this thread. Ad Aware 11 is a big deal. I have been using Ad Aware for several years now, and have been using Pro for the last two. I have to say that update 11 feels like a slap in the face for users that pay for a full suite. Most options in the interface have disappeared. The UI is TINEEY! The UI is UGLY! But more importantly, back to the features. In 10 there were many setting to play with. In 11 everything has been stripped away. It feels as if the user has less control with his or her product. Lavasoft, I love you guys, but if 11 stays, I will be switching to another product. Thank you for all of your hard work in making a great anti virus system. I hope you take user feedback on this to heart.

Did Pro users lose the firewall with Ad Aware 11!?

There is a firewall in Ad-Aware 11 Pro Security.

About 3 months I learned that AdAware did not scan cookies in Firefox. The reason was that Firefox stores cookies in a database file. The database is in SQLITE format. It is my understanding that AdAware was concerned with processing this file structure. With the sophistication of AdAware and all of its components I find it is somewhat of perplexing that a simple database structure causes concern. I have used CCleaner (free) for 5 plus years to scan for the removal of unwanted temporary internet files, history, temporary files, etc. In that time frame I have not had any issue with CCleaner scanning the Firefox cookies and removing cookies that are not in a ‘cookies to keep’ file.

I would like AdAware to incorporate this feature in a future AdAware release.

Hello,

Geoff46, yes cookies are being deleted during the scan process as it is a part of business logic. This suggestion is added to our list.

John M65,

Yes, you are right. Ad-Aware 11 does not scan Firefox cookies, from IE only.

Your suggestion is added to our list.

Thanks,

Anna

I found two problems

Ad ware service is taking 150MB of memory which is huge.

If you are not providing web protection in free version why are you installing toolbar in free version.

A Clear One Checkbox Option Yes or No to install a Toolbar. if No? Asked if you would like to also remove 'Ad-Aware Browsing Protection', that should always stay By Default. I Hate Toolbars & I hate having to go into programs & Un-Install it every time, because I can only Assume Unless you install even the basic toolbar you will Not have Browsing Protection installed?.

& as always, a Fully Automatic Game/Full Screen Mode. I Hate & Never Bother having to Manually turn Game Mode on & off every time I play an MMO Multiple times per day, its a PITA & Should Be Fully Automatic like Many both Paid & Free AV have been for years now.

TY. ;-)

Thank you for the post, can you please answer the following questions:

1. was any scan in process?

2. what actions did you do on computer during that time?

3. what features were enabled?

Concerning the Web Protection. Web Protection as a feature is not available in free version, but toolbar is available for installation if you want to have web protection offered by toolbar.

Hello RMc-Canada,

'Ad-Aware Browsing Protection' always installs if you select at least one check box form the 3 available, beacause it is used in program as additional web protection.

Concerning Gaming Mode, the feature to enable Gaming Mode as soon as any gaming application in full screen is detected is planned to be implemented. As for now, you have to enable Gaming Mode manually when you start gaming.

Regards,

Anna

What happened to the ability to set the advanced firewall/ network protection for "all other applications" to ask in the paid version? I can set rules for individual programs, but cannot set them for everything and then apply rules as the opportunity arises. I just got off the phone with tech support and was told this feature was removed from Ad-Aware 11! Seriously???

The people in charge of the update decided it was more efficient for me to have to type in information on each and every program then to push a button marked "block" or "allow" and make a rule on the fly??? Unbelievable!! What are you guys using for brains? Do you really think people have that much time on their hands that they have time to build a rule for every peice of software on their marchine, or that they install, that they want to limit internet acces for??

The lame excuse I was given for the change was that the popups asking for access bothered some people. So tell people how to set "all other applications" to allow! Duh! There is no reason to dumb down the program for everyone else. Or was this just the best the tech support guy could come up with to explain a REALLY STUPID decision?

I talked my father into switching from AVG to Ad-Aware because Ad_aware had this feature - like AVG does. Now he will probably cancel and switch back. I'm sure as heck not upgrading. And if it doesn't get fixed, I will be leaving Ad-Aware behind as well.

I am the father that SV Diomedea "talked into" buying Ad-Aware v 11. She recommended that I join this group, but not before I had posted the message below to Tech Support Guy forum. I used Zone Alarm for years and especially liked the feature that every time something new was installed or upgraded, Zone Alarm asked permission to allow it to access the web. Many times I'd be presented with sub-processes that I hadn't known were there.

Message to Tech Guy Forum:

"I don't think anything can be done about this problem, but I am writing to give it publicity because it may affect the decision of any who are considering Ad-Aware Antivirus. I did at the recommendation of my knowledgeable daughter to said that the firewall section was just like old Zone Alarm which, when first installed, would present the credentials of any program attempting to use the internet for block, temp allow, or permanent allow.

She has version 10. I got version 11. It still has the firewall but rather than do the job as described above one has to /know/ that something is trying to use the internet (how?) and enter its process manually. This is without a doubt the most egregious removal of value in my experience.

I am thinking strongly of demanding my money back, but meanwhile, is there any alternative software that actually does the job described?"

I'll wait a bit to see if you have any reasons I should not take this action.

Hello svdiomedea,

No, this feature was not removed.

Open Network Protection tab, click on Advanced settings link and find Default Action menu. "Allow" option is set by default.

Anna
