Installation error

Question

I had a paid version of Ad-Aware a few years back and then I unstalled it.

I tried downloading the free version and I would always get am installation error, so I paid for the PRO version. I still get the install error after downloading.

Any help?

Hi sbernhol,

Please, describe your installation issue, e.g. any error messages, when the error occur.

There are files from 2009 that belong to a very old version of Ad-Aware in the computer. It's necessary to remove them.

You have recently uninstalled other antivirus programs. Are you aware of that you after the usual uninstallation often need to run special removal tools to remove the program completely?

Left-overs sometimes disturb the installation of other antivirus programs.

Are you aware of that all optimizing and registry cleaning programs sometimes destroy something in the computer, and that may give strange issues?

You can read the reviews of ARO here: http://download.cnet.com/ARO-2013/3000-2086_4-10183947.html#rateit

Is your Windows completely updated?

The Attach.txt log file is very short and usually lists more Windows updates.

Reviews of AA Antimalware/Adware Away: https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/adwareaway.com

Please, download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) and save it on the desktop:

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/FRST.exe

Start the FRST program.

Read the disclaimer and click Yes to accept it.

Click Scan button.

When done, FRST will create two log files, called FRST.txt and Addition.txt, on the desktop.

Please, attach them to your reply (press "More Reply Options" button to see how to attach files).

I download the AD-Aware, then install it, and when I click on "Continue" for the Ad-Aware to begin, it says there was and error and I should try again later.

Thanks for the description.

1. The following script will remove the old Ad-Aware files and registry posts, as well as left-overs from uninstallations and some malicious/bad files.

Please, start Notepad.

Copy all text that is in the box:

and paste in Notepad. Check that no files have been split on two lines.

Save the file as fixlist.txt on the desktop.

Please, move the FRST program from the Downloads folder to the desktop.

Close all programs.

Start FRST.

Click the Fix button.

Wait until the tool has finished.

It creates a log file, called Fixlog.txt, on the desktop.

Please, paste the content of that file in your answer.

2. Plese, restart the computer, turn off all Iobit programs to be sure that they don't interfere with the installation of Ad-Aware and try to install Ad-Aware again.

3. If you get the same error again, please collect logs and other information by following the instructions in http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?/topic/33638-collect-logs-for-troubleshooting/ to let Lavasoft investigate your issues.

Good!

This id stored in the security center:

AV: Lavasoft Ad-Watch Live! Anti-Virus (Disabled - Up to date) {A1C4F2E0-7FDE-4917-AFAE-013EFC3EDE33}

To remove it:

Start menu - Run[b/]

In the little field enter: wbemtest.exe

Press Enter key or click on OK button.

When the program starts follow these five snapshots: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/Delete_AV_From_WMI.gif

That is:

Connect

root\SecurityCenter

Query

SELECT * FROM AntiVirusProduct

Apply

Mark the line with A1C4F2E0-7FDE-4917-AFAE-013EFC3EDE33

Delete

Exit the program.

Please, continue with the rest of post #7.

I found nothing in my temp folder.

The msinfo32.nfo was not able to be uploaded, I received an error that said I wasn't able to upload that type of file.

I think you forgot to do a compressed folder of the msinfo32.nfo file.

According to Lavasoft there seems to an issue with "Windows Installer". To confirm it, they like to install another program that uses "Windows Installer" for installation, e.g. you can try to install the trial of Lavasoft Registry Tuner to check.

http://lavasoft.com/download/Lavasoft_Registry_Tuner_v.2.0.1_trial30.exe

Don't use the program.

They also want to know the version number of "Windows Installer". You can find it by going to the C:\Windows\System32 folder, right-click msiexec.exe and select Properties. In the new little box select the Detail tab.

I was able to download and install the Registry Tuner. I opened the software and it seemed to want to work, but I did not go through with that program.

Windows installer version:

Version 4.5.6001.22159

Lavasoft asks if you allow them to connect to your computer to try to solve the issue. You'll see everything they do, and you'll be able to stop them and communicate with them. If you accept it, please send me your email address and when they can connect to your computer in a PM. Lavasoft will respond in another PM and later on send you a file by email.

I've had that happen at work before, I have no problem with that, except I'm at work for the day.

I should be after after 17:00 central time today.
