Hi,

Is it Ad-Aware antivirus program or Web Companion that has been installed together with another program?

I have moved your question to the Web Companion forum.

Please, start the Command Prompt as an administrator (Start menu - All programs - Accessories, right-click Command Prompt and select "Run as Administrator").
Enter this command (end with the Enter key):

netsh winsock reset

Restart the computer.
If that solved the problem, please reply here.

If not, please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) and save it on the desktop:
For 64 bits Windows: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/FRST64.exe
For 32 bits Windows: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/FRST.exe

Start the FRST program.

Read the disclaimer and click Yes to accept it.
Click Scan button.
When done, FRST will create two log files, called FRST.txt and Addition.txt, on the desktop.

Please, attach them to your reply (press More Reply Options button to see how to attach files).

It would help if there was a way to uninstall the program... it doesn't show up on my control panel uninstall list, and the installer file in the app folder doesn't do anything. The only thing I can do is delete the folder, but that leaves artifacts on my computer.

Usually it's possibly to uninstall Web Companion from Control Panel's list of installed programs. It might be some kind of conflict with another program that stopped the uninstaller from removing everything.
