Web Companion crashes and cannot uninstall

Question

Hi, I can't seem to uninstall this program. I think I installed it while trying to install something else.

However, when I go to Control Panel to uninstall it, a new window pop ups saying that Web Companion crashed.

Can someone please help me out on what I should do? Thanks so much.

Let us see, what's happening in your computer.

Please, download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) and save it on the desktop:
For 64 bits Windows: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/FRST64.exe
For 32 bits Windows: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/FRST.exe

Start the FRST program.

Read the disclaimer and click Yes to accept it.
Click Scan button.
When done, FRST will create two log files, called FRST.txt and Addition.txt, on the desktop.

Please, attach them to your reply (click choose files...).

Hi leprekhanh,

Have you tried to start the computer in safe mode and then uninstall Ad-Aware Web Companion?

No need to apologize, you're the one that has a problem, not I ;)

1. Open Web Companion and configure it to what you want to have, e.g. search engines in the browsers.

2. Please follow Option #3: https://forum.adaware.com/index.php?/topic/34376-solution-for-lavasofttcpservice-problem-after-uninstallation/&do=findComment&comment=151613

3. Please, start Notepad.
Copy all text that is in the box:

CreateRestorePoint:
CloseProcesses:
HKU\S-1-5-21-3295180137-3937823416-923266388-1001\...\Run: [Web Companion] => C:\Program Files (x86)\Lavasoft\Web Companion\Application\WebCompanion.exe [1951336 2017-05-22] (Lavasoft)

Reboot:

and paste in Notepad. Check that no files have been split on two lines.
Save the file as fixlist.txt on the desktop.

Exit all programs.
Start FRST, please.
Click the Fix button.
Wait until the tool has finished.

It creates a log file, called Fixlog.txt, on the desktop.
Please, paste the content of that file in your reply.

4. Since there seems to be some adware (Spigot) in the computer, you might want to try AdwCleaner: https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/

Okay so:

1. I can't open Web Companion at all, it crashes whenever I try to open it.

2. I followed the instructions in that link, downloaded the patch & ran it.

3. Here's the Fixlog.txt

Thank you for the head's up regarding Spigot - I'll have it removed :)

Fixlog.txt

Please upload Fixlog.txt.

How do you notice Web Companion?

That's the quarantine folder of FRST, where it collects everything the program has removed. That folder will be deleted when FRST is uninstalled.

Do you notice anything else of Web Companion?
If not, it's time to uninstall FRST:

Save Delfix on the Desktop: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/delfix/
Start the program.

Select the following, but nothing else:
* Remove disinfection tools
* Create registry backup

Click the Run button.

Looks like it's all gone. Thanks!

THe only thing I wonder is why making the installation so hidden and the removal so complicated...

But anyway, Thank you once again!

You're welcome :)

Usually the uninstallation is neither hidden nor complicated. Something must have happened during the installation and it wasn't completed, or some other program, e.g. an antivirusprogram, removed parts of Web Companion.
