Network Protection blocks internet access when a port is specified

Question

My internet access seems to be generally fine, however I have reason to go to some sites where I have to specify a particular port, so instead of keying www.example.com or https://www.example.com I need to key https://www.example.com:10000.

I seem to be able to access anything anywhere on the internet with Network Protection turned on EXCEPT any site where I specify a port.  I'm guessing that is intended behaviour, and that's fine, but I can't find where to input any exceptions that would allow me to leave Network Protection on generally but allow me access to these two or three sites where I need to specify a particular port.

All input most welcome!
