Ad-watch Using 99% Of Processor

Recommended Posts

Using current versions of Ad-Aware SE Professional (build 1.06r1). A while back Ad-Watch started using 99% of the processor whenever I went to a new page on the internet. Worked with Lavasoft Tech Support and turned on and off various ad-watch parameters, shut down zone alarm and norton products, etc. but the issue continued.

The 30-60 second delay on opening an internet page this CPU high use is causing is unworkable. So I have left Ad-Watch shut down, which doesn't make use of the product, so thought I'd try the forum route.

I've included a hijackthis log and the log file from when I just started Ad-Watch. I'm not sure where to get a listing of my ad-watch option settings. Realtime performance currently set at medium.

The problem is likely a conflict with some other software, just can't seem to figure it out/ Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Here's all I got on ad-watch start up.

Exactly same thing here with SE Plus. Ad-Watch completely unusable- using 99% of processor everytime I access a web page. Had to disable it. Now all is fine. Did not install any new software, only usual auto updates.

when I upgraded to Ad-Aware 2007 the problem went away.

Since you are having the problem with the 2007 version, logic indicates it's something other than Ad-Aware causing the problem.

Likely a conflict between Ad-Aware and some other software which was resolved on my system, but not yours by the upgrade.

Since Lavasoft has not responded to this post, likely they feel it's an individual user issue......

I've been using Lavasoft products since 2003. It may soon be the end of the line - due to Ad-Watch.

I've put up with Ad-Watch crashes, extreme slow-downs, and many unexplained problems for months and months. I've forgotten how to effectively prevent it from loading (configuration), so I usually just kill its process after booting the computer.

The Windows XP startup is really painful. I need to wait until Ad-Watch's 2 indicators go green, and that can be 5 minutes or more.

I have just upgraded to Ad-Aware 2007 Pro, and I will install it and run it for a week.

If its Ad-Watch performs as badly as its predecessor, I'll ditch the Lavasoft product and use Microsoft's Defender (etc) instead.
