Use Smitfraudfix! That was the right remedy to Antispywarebox. I applied in safe mode.

BUT: Does anyone know why my TaskManager window has now no header bar, no menu options, it is just the headerless list of services. Please help with this last annoying remnant!

Thanks

Marian

I want to share what I found on this issue

I was having the same problems

After a couple of days working on it, I came out with a possible solution

At any step do not use Internet Explorer

1. Removed temporarily the "coolwebsearch" with removal tool from trend micro

2. Did a search for all files created at the time of the infection. Note down all of them. (including pictures)

3. Reboot to safe mode

4. Delete each file.

5. Clean with Trend Micro Anti-Spyware

6. Clean with Ad-Aware SE Pro

7. Reboot to Normal Mode and test.

What I am having is some strange processing which might be something left behind or my hard disk that is dying. Anyway the about:blank issue and the annoying pop-ups are gone.

Could someone else verify this procedure and reply if his is having the same processing issue?

Below is a list of the files I found and removed. Do not use the name on this list as most probably will not be the same as yours. Although some of them might be. This list is just for reference.

Hi, saw your post about losing task manager header and went to check mine. Sure enough it was reset to some wierd setting but I figured it out. Just double click any blank area of task manager that does show up and it will show all the task manager options again. That is how u toggle between the 2 optional views of task manager. This malware sure is taking us on some heck of a ride!

When lost the header of your task manager - click anywhere on blank space of that window and the header is back!!! YES, WORKS - thank you for advice and I just wonder how stupid I am I did not try it before.
