Adaware 2007 Plus - Cannot Delete Previously Scheduled Task

Recommended Posts

Hi -

Just recently registered AdAware 2007 (Plus version); running Windows XP Home, all latest MS patches; Dell Dimension 9100 PC.

I created a scheduled task on each of two identical (fully and individually) licensed PC's, and have the same issue - I cannot DELETE that previously created scheduled task in AdAware 2007 - what am I missing?

Just to make sure, in order to delete a task, what you do is select the object in the Scheduled Tasks list and click the 'Delete' button. Are you saying this doesn't work on your machine?

That is precisely correct - I highlight the task in question, click the delete key, I get the ? dialog asking for confirmation, then when I click YES, I get a dialog with a large red X stating that "Could not delete selected scheuled task".

This happens on TWO seperate machines with two seperately licensed copies.

OK, we'll look into it.

Tobias -

Any update on this? What makes my plight particularly annoying is that I set a full scan daily at an inopportune time, and now I cannot delete this scheduled job. Originally, I just set some paramenters for a scheduled job, presuming that it would be trivial for me to delete it or modify attributes of the job - I cannot delete it, and there appears to have been no thought whatsoever to allowing one to modify an existing scheduled job.

Is there any information that I can provide?

Seeking help,

JMeyers

Tobias, anyone at Lavasoft -

I still have this problem, and I still cannot delete a scheduled job - my problem has not gone away, and I am getting increasingly frustrated that I am getting no responce or any indication whatsoever that this is being looked into and most importantly, FIXED.

If I need to provide any kind of debug information, I will be glad to do, but I paid for two copies of Ad-Aware 2007, and they both have a problem severe enough that I am beginning to believe that I should not have registerd.

Please assist,

JMeyers

The bug is reported and on the to do list. Unfortunately I have no information about when a fix can be expected at the moment.

Tobias -

Thank you for the response. It is my hope that it will be fixed as soon as is practical. Please do let me know if you need any information from me that I could provide - after all, I'd be helping you to help me.

EDIT: Duplicate responses - deleted both in error - this is jmmeyers latest post - Today, 02:28 PM

Tobias -

I'm presuming that you are aware that 7.0.1.4 does not at all address this issue; I am further presuming that you would have notified me if an explicit fix was in place for my "cannot delete scheduled task" problem.

Just making sure the lines of communication are open, that I am looking for and downloading new versions, and finally - waiting for a fix... :D

(My apologies, JMeyers)

No, I am aware of that it hasn't been fixed. We haven't forgotten about it though.

I am having the same problem: I can neither edit nor delete a scheduled task. Add that to the inability to stop a scheduled scan without going into task manager and ending the aawservice.exe process, and dealing with a scan at an unwanted time becomes beyond frustrating. I would hope that Lavasoft would be addressing issues with the paid version of AdAware 2007 before those with the free one. :excl:

I would hope that Lavasoft would be addressing issues with the paid version of AdAware 2007 before those with the free one.

So, it looks as though two of my Ad-Aware problems are shared by others at the forum. Thanks all for posting the details so I'can just pop my head in and write . . ."Me, too."

Only one difference . . . I thought I'd try to "outsmart" the bugger. Ha! Nope, nothing smart about me what-so-ever. Instead of deleting the original scheduled scan, I've now added another that I cannot delete. That's a total of two scheduled scans that I cannot delete. Follow me so far? It gets a bit more wonky for this next part.

One scan is scheduled daily, starting tomorrow (2007-07-16) at 2:10am and the second is also scheduled daily, starting tomorrow (2007-07-16) at 2:21am. I anticipate some problems as the smart scans that I've observed have taken approximately 11-12 minutes to complete. Unfortunately, I've only given it 11 minutes before it is scheduled to perform the second unwanted scan. Did I mention that there's nothing smart about me what-so-ever? Don't think there'll be anything smart about this "Smart Scan" tomorrow, either. :)

I assume that if I don't have the computer on at the time, I can avoid problems but sooner or later, I'm gonna get it. Now, I'm skiddish about doing anything else "smart."

If I reduce the tasks involved in a scan, I would expect that the scan time would be reduced as well, yes? Would it be wise to change the scan settings? If so, what settings would you recommend that I change?

Do I have to write it? >>> HELP! . . . in advance.

Thanks ever so much for your time.

Happy to provide more info upon request.

Edit: I've noticed that when I attempt to delete the scheduled scans, I get an Application Error. I posted about this in another forum/thread before I was aware of the possible connection. Are any of you receiving an Application Error when closing Ad-Aware after attempting to delete scheduled scans?

Hello again. New problem, today.

Ad-Aware crashed and shortly afterwards (about 20 min.) my computer crashed.

Is this related to my other problems?

To manually remove scheduled scans, do the following:

1. Close Ad-Aware

2. Go to the start menu, choose 'Run...', type in 'Services.msc' and in the service window, stop Ad-Aware 2007 Service

3. Go to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007 and delete the file schedule.aaw

4. Start Ad-Aware - the scheduled tasks should now be gone.

Yep, that did it. That not only deleted the scheduled scans but I was also able to schedule a new scan at a more convenient time.

Thanks again for the help, Tobias.
